Outlook Folder Sizes

Hi, I have MS Outlook 2010 which I've connected to a couple of online email accounts. I just noticed that if I go into MS Outlook and look up the folder size of my two email accounts, it's different from the sizes listed in my Outlook files under My Documents. Why is this?

The Outlook folder sizes were compared by opening MS Outlook and selecting (highlighting) email account 1 > selecting 'Folder' at the top, then 'folder properties' then 'folder size'. I did the same for email account 2.

Then I went to 'My Documents' and selected the 'Outlook files' folder, clicked, and looked at the size tag.

Shouldn't these match and be the same?

I really can't comment on why the folder sizes should vary as I don't know how Outlook stores information sizes in various locations.

The size of the files in your Documents Library are the .pst & .ost files which cannot be opened other than in Outlook. Also sometimes Outlook pops up a message asking if certain files are to be compressed & archived which, would alter the size of some files.
