I am a system engineer in a company, and I have a colleague who was unable to login to Windows, Outlook and a few other applications after his domain password expired.

He logged a call with our helpdesk to reset his domain password. After the password reset, he could login to Windows, but could not login to Outlook 2010.
By right, after a domain password reset, users should not only be able to login to Windows, but use the same password to login to Microsoft Outlook.

What could be the problem, and how can his login problem be resolved?

Are you using AD & SSO? If so, what's your procedure for reseting the password? If only done using AD password reset it might not change the Outlook / Exchange password so Outlook is trying to get logged in to mail server using an expired password.
