I posted this earlier but none of the solutions offered have worked. I have turned off the fire wall and tried sending and receiving and it has made no difference. My POP3 server is Verizon mail and, as directed, I have changed the outgoing port setting to 587 (same problem with it set to 25).

Trouble opening jpg files or pdf files in Outlook 2007

from Windows 7 Forums by Jimindc

I have a new machine running Windows 7 and Outlook 2007. If a picture is inserted in a message it comes through fine, but sent as an attachment most of it is "greyed out". The picture itself is not corrupt because I can view the attachement in the same messgae looking at it on my IPhone.

The same is happening with adobe files attached sent to me as an email attachment.

Also, if I try to attach a document and it is any where near 100K it hangs up in the Out Box.

I am using MS Firewall and MS Security Essentials for anti-virus protection.

Any idea what I need to do to correct this situation??

Thanks TTran for the link and its info. I tried compacting but it didn't help. I know now that it is an Outlook problem and not Windows &. I weht to my Hotmail account, attached a large file and sent it to my email account, which is a Pop3 account. The file went out without any trouble. I next went on to the web site for the POP3 account and the file opened without problem. Next I went to Outlook where I usually read the mail from this POP3 account and it took forever to down load it. Once downloaded it reported that it could not open the file because the file was corrupted. The same happened when trying to send a large file from Outlook; it remained in the Out Box. However sending the same file from the POP3 site was no problem. I've read everything I can find to see if there is some area of Outlook that indicates a maximum file size to send or receive. I haven't found that info. If you know if there is such a place please let me know. O, BTW, I have made sure the firewall and virus software were off when sending and receiving....still no help.

So I read this on your previous topic. and have a question and a comment.

Question: When you view it on your iPhone, are you using Mail on the iPhone or are you browsing to the email provider's Web site/using an App of theirs?

Comment: Just because it shows up ok via browsers means very little. Email providers that have their own servers and gear like Hotmail et al. can have their own special ways of getting the emails via the Web clients that is much different than you do via Pop3.

Question: Is Verizon your internet provider as well? If so is it Wireless Broadband or FiOS?

Question: Is it JUST PDF and JPG files? Can you open documents or GIFs or PNGs or anything else ok using Outlook?

I'm using Mail. It is downloading mail from my POP3 verizon mail account

Yes it is. I'm using FiOS

It depends on the size of the document. I can not SEND or receive anything over about 100K, including MS Word documents that are attached.

Looking for solution to similar problem

I have the same basic situation happening right now. I am running Win7 Pro x64 with Outlook 2007 with all of the latest patches installed. Running McAfee and Spyware Doctor along with the Microsoft security tools and CCleaner.

I use Verizon FIOS for my email provider as well.

Files with JPG or PDF files are corrupt when using the Outlook client. The JPG files are partially visible with the remainder of the picture being grayed out. The PDF files will either give a Vista error and fail to open or will open with a message that it can't display it.

On occasion, certain JPG and PDF files will come across okay, but I cannot determine a min/max based on size. Viewing the emails via a web browser are fine. Forwarding the emails via the web browser interface to my work email which uses Outlook 2007 as a client are fine. So I am certain that the source emails/attachments are okay and not corrupted.

I have run defraggers, re-installed all of Office with countless reboots in between the various steps.

Any ideas?
