I am thinking of overclocking my current cpu therefore I have got my self a new heatsink and fan. However I am kinda of an armature so I am worried replacing the heatsink. The only problem is that I don't have any cleaner to fully clean the old thermal paste so I wanted to ask is it recommended that one should clean it properly and if so can i use a white spirit to remove the old layer of thermal paste. Please post your suggestion or I will have to wait another few days for the alchol based cleaner :p
PS: After I am done this I require further help in the actual overclocking:D.

Unless by some fluke you have the options in the bios this,

System Manufacturer/Model Number HP M9070.a

says you won't be overclocking at all as HP hides/removes and and all options that would allow it. There might be a software overclocking utility, but no idea what to recommend (other than most will say not to use one).

As for cleaning off old thermal paste, cheapest and easiest is to use isopropyl alcohol, 90% if you can find it.

You can if you want to turn the motherboard into a nice paperweight. The only place to get the bios for it is from HP, and they won't have a bios update that unhides those options.

If you plan to buy new motherboard
and you plan to play with some overclock
in LGA775 buy motherboard at least chipset P35
Or if you have more money, P45, X38, X48 chipset should be great :p
think to buy new RAM too,.. at least PC6400

Forget replacing the motherboard.

hey, aman113, listen to stormy13. You have a have an HP Q6600, so give up, or replace it. The man is right.

For the rest you folks with HP's, Compaqs, Dells, etc: Unless you bought a Dell Alienware or some other "Gaming PC", you're probably not gonna be doing any overclocking. OEM machines are NOT built to be overclocked by YOU. They either already come overclocked or are usually restricted by the BOIS to stay within normal range.

You should learn to build a system from parts. If you can figure out how to do that, come back and we'll talk.
