Overly large ping rate.

Hey!

Well I just moved into a basement apartment a few days ago, so I was eager to move in because my internet went from 100kb/s to a maximum of 10mb/s, it works great and I am enjoying able to play online gaming without d/c every time I try to play, but not all problems are gone, I mean I get good smooth gameplay most of the time but sometimes I get a big of lag spikes not really bad but they are noticeable. Every time I try to do a speed test on any server the ping is 800, or when I am playing online on DoD:S the ping is always in the 180 and I find that irritating any idea's?

Any chance that you'r Firewall is blocking some of the sent data and recived?
Is you'r Antivirus checking all in/out traffic from the game?

No, my firewall is not blocking anything, and my Bit defender is on gaming mode, so I am not sure, maybe it would be my wireless networking card, not quite sure how far it can reach.

try doing a network driver update

my ping is ussually round 41 -43 I have not seen it spike higher then that unless the server is really bad other then that

update network driver and see if that helps and maybe disable the antivirus all together i have a gamer mode on mine but still some anti virus files still scan and might be blocking one of the code paths making your ping low

not a solution just maybe some help on the issue rep the person that the solution worked best for you thanks

Claims it has the most recent drivers for it.

uninstall and restart see if windows detects or better yet put your mother board disc in and redo the driver that should fix it

Why would I update my motherboard drivers? My Adapter is PCI, its not integrated, but I guess I could check for latest mobo drivers.

not your mother board there is a driver for the network adapter on the disc all the drivers for the mainboard should be on that disc just reinstall the network adapter only

Have you tried connecting by wire to the modem/router just to rule out that it could be the wireless connection that is causing it?

I had to take out my ethernet card to put in my wireless network adapter, because my mother board did not seem to have the room for it,

My network adapter is Airlink 101 MIMO XR 802.11g

But my roommate is also receiving high ping rates on his computer as well, and he is hard lined.

Open a command prompt and type in tracert followed by the IP address of of one of the game servers that is showing high pings, then post the results back here.

I actually solved this issue my roommate was seeding a file and it hit 10 gigs, we did not know about it until he came back from his business trip. Thanks all.

And on top I found out he had the security off on the router so people were jacking our internet for about 4 days I tell ya the stuff that happens xD
