I am planning to leave my laptop on overnight with Ac power on..will it damage the battery?

It's fine if you leave it on all day and night.
Poor ventilation would be bad whether you were there on it or it was just on and idle on its own, but the battery will degrade with time.

It shouldn't. Mine's on 24/7 except when I travel which, as of late, has been infrequent.

Although the actual reason for a regular discharge/ Recalibration of the battery has Changed the need for it is still there.

A lot of recent laptops especially, those sold as desktop replacements, will actually run with the mains only, and the battery removed, if this is the case here that should remove any possibility of battery wear

Not to speak for Barman, but you should be able to run fine with the battery removed while you're on AC power if you desire to do so.

I've never done it, though, and I've had my laptop for a little over two years. The battery still gives me about 4 hours when I need it to. I've probably only ran the battery down maybe 3 times since I've had the laptop and none of those times were intentional.

Battery in or battery out, on AC it's not usually a big deal unless you need to charge your battery. I just leave it in and, as I mentioned previously, I'm plugged in and on 24/7 except on rare occasions.

I can't really tell you what to opt for. I can, however tell you what I have opted for and that is leaving the battery in at all times whether I'm on AC or not (well, especially not )

However I can with an acer aspire one so it should be possible

To try ..... switch off your laptop, disconnect from mains and remove the battery ... reconnect to mains and switch on ... if the laptop switches on then it works if not then your system is not compatible with this option.

No damage should be possible even if it does not work

The advantage of running with the battery out is that the battery will not be stressed, the advantage of running with the battery in place is that you are safe from power supply failure which may be important in some locations.

Also with the battery not in place you need to always check and maybe charge the battery when you need to use the system away from power

It worked when I removed..But the best option for me would be to use it with the battery as our area is prone to power cuts..

If you do remove the battery for a long period of time, it's a good idea to remove it when it's discharged to about 40%. Here's an article I found useful: batteryuniversity.com

Okay, I will vehemently contradict anyone that says it's okay to leave a laptop plugged in 24/7. It WILL ruin the battery. I replace batteries for customers ever single week because they leave their laptops plugged in. I don't care what the manufacturers say, it's wrong. Leave it plugged in and after awhile, your battery will no longer hold a charge.
