Hello All,

The last two times I have set laptop back to factory settings I have selected the option to check for updates and let me decide to install them in the Windows update setting. Something appears to override this option I made and installed up to 210 updates...which also totally bogs the laptop down performance wise and more importantly it keeps reverting to 'Download updates automatically' Which is not the setting I want.

Thanks

Jonathan.

It has been recommended I install service pack 1 after a clean/factory install, Even after this I set to I choose when to install updates and OS overrides that setting and installs all 210.

It sounds to me like a regular user account vs. an Administrator account issue. Log on to an Admin account (if you're not using that already) and make the changes there. If you are doing this using an Admin account, try it in Safe Mode with Networking.

Good luck, keep us posted!

If that still fails, try a clean install.
