That is a hadrware (I/O) error meaning something in your system hardware is not ready to communicate with the OS. I think youv'e put yourself in a bit of a position, you should have created both a Win 7 repair disk and system recovery disks before this happened.
Can you fill in your spec as there is a possibilty a BIOS update may solve this problem.

Probably the best way to find how to update the BIOS is go to compaq's site and look up your model there. Look for downloads and BIOS updates, there will be complete instructions, maybe even a tool to do it for you.

As cyclic pointed out rightly in an earlier post, more often than not (but not necessarily :) ) a failed hardware is the cause of this problem. The possibility of corrupt MBR as well as file system also cannot be ruled out but takes the second precedence.

1. I wouldn't like to carry a non-working hardware on my PC. First pull out your non-working optical drive from your system and check.

2. Run the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool from a bootable pendrive and ascertain the integrity of your HDD.

3. If the HDD gives a failure report, contact OEM Service for a replacement.

4. If the HDD passes the test, I will still not rule out a motherboard component failure such as the SATA Controller ( I am taking into account your non-working SATA optical drive - a partial failure now degenerating to a full failure. Your optical drive may still be good.)

A substitute and test method is required to troubleshoot and find out hardware faults the easy way.. A service center is well-equipped to do that.

On the software side, gregrocker can help you repair the MBR/filesytem, but personally I would not venture into it before clearing the hardware.

( In another thread an OP who had an optical drive that would only not recognise a blank media and write to it, tried all tricks of the trade Auto Play, sfc scannow, system restore, msconfig, uninstall, regfix, clean install, Repair disk and in the process mucked up his system only to find finally that his optical drive was faulty. If only he had substituted his optical drive in the first instance, he wouldn't have got into such a muddle.)
