Packet loss, ISP is useless

Just had a call with my ISP support person who didn't understand the difference between me tracert'ing/showing packet loss and what the speed of the connection is.

1. Wireless connection
2. Australia - Telstra
3. ADSL2+ (best I can get)
4. TP LINK TD-W8968
5. MSE
6. Ipconfig/all: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. - Pastebin.com

I want to know if I should buy a new router with DDWRT support. This is a router I bought second hand and I keep getting packet loss every 20 seconds or so. What are some cheap options for a decent DD WRT router that is only going to be utilized on a ADSL2+ connection? Or are there any other diagnostics I should do beforehand?

Thanks.

packet loss is 99% of the time caused by the quality of the copper phone lines. Changing router wont help. You would probably have better results if they changed you to ADLS1 profile. Unfortunately there is little you can do from your side, even changing ISP would not help.
