PAL TV Out not available

I can not set PAL TV Output - Forced to used NTSC.

I have two different systems (completely different hardware - loacted in different countries) and have exactly the same problem - in both cases it works under Vista - so probably not a hardware problem.

I am trying to set up dual monitor systems (LCD monitor & SD PAL TV).

The TV is connected to an NVidia card (8600GT or 7300GS) via S video.

In device manager, the monitor shows as Generic nonPNP Monitor.

In available refresh rates i get 29 and 30 Hertz as being available - not the 25 Hertz needed for PAL.

If i go into advanced settings, I get lots of different resoultions, but only at 29 or 30 Hertz.

I then downloaded the (181.xx) driver from windows update. When I go into the Nvidia control panel and go to change TV format, it shows PAL settings as being available, but when I click Apply or OK, it reverts back to NTSC.

It is the same with the 185.xx driver downloaded from NVidia.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Any ideas how to fix?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hmmm. That is strange indeed. Sounds like NVidia needs to work on this for the 7 drivers.

You probably tried this, but you can right click the desktop, choose NVIDIA control panel. then on left side, choose setup multiple displays. Then you hit the box for rigorous display detection. Maybe that will do something good, I dunno. Also, there is the option to force television detection on startup that you could try.

Since you say it works well in Vista, maybe give the Vista driver you use a try by installing it in 7 instead if the above doesn't do any good.

no change with vista driver

I just tried the vista driver (185.xx) with no change in results.

I am thinking that it is the monitor driver (or monitor.inf) that sets the capabilities for the device that is the issue.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks

I have the same problem. Also tried all the drivers. Unfortunately, the TV-Out does not operate in Pal.
Has anyone found a solution?

solution found

I think it is an Nvidia driver problem. I found that it works with the 175.xx driver for VISTA (not windows 7).

Good luck

Mark:D

Edit:

I now have it working with the 185.85 win7 driver. I was able to get it working by upgrading the 175 winvista driver (without first doing the uninstall manually)

After alot of reinstalling old drivers and new driver i finally got it working last night. I actually gave up on it and decided to wait for a new driver, but then i gave it one last try.

what i did was fairly simple, i removed all installed drivers, rebooted let windows install my gfx card, then downloaded the newest nvidia driver GeForce/ION Driver Release 185
ran the install, and voila i now had a pal tv-out signal, not sure why this worked but it did.

hope it helps

I tired this process also still no luck..... how come vista can work fine with s-video or do i need to reinstall seven???

if anyone else can help please let me know :)

Make sure that you have the international driver (download from Welcome to NVIDIA - World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies) and that your location is properly set at the OS level (in the regional settings) to a PAL country before you install the driver.

I just ran into this problem again after having it fixed. I was running fine (PAL) with x86 build 7127 but was having some other unrelated problems (explorer locking) and did an upgrade ( i know - don't do upgrades) to 7201. It then reverted unchangably to NTSC.

I have 7201 running on my other computer and have no problems. Am doing a clean install of 7201 (which is my favorite release so far), Will let you know how it goes

i think i might have fixed my issue with s-video pal output.
from whati can gather....windows 7 rc 7229 or below cant see s-video as a pal device or it could be my tv thats the issue. i used a s-video to rca converter on the vidoe card now i am getting a pal signal....hehe good thing i work in a computer store and those adapters are readily available...

im hoping to try component in a few weeks when i get my new graphics card in...ill post when i do.

I also had black and white. There is a workaround. I used the s-video cable but i connected the 7-pin plug using Component (which has blue, green and red component). I connected a normal composite cable into the BLUE cable and chose PAL. Viola!
