Palm Hotsync Manager Configuration

Windows 7 likes my Palm desktop software just fine. I am having trouble getting the hotsync manager to work, though. I've set it for local USB, but am still not getting it to recognize my PDA. I need v4.1.4 for compatibility with my Tungsten E2. The newer version, 6.2, won't work with it.

Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

Your problem is that they never released a decent driver for 64 bit systems

read this...they say you need to set up Bluetooth syncing:

I get permanently the "unknown USB device when I plug in my Zire 31
Hotsyncing works tho (I'm on 32-Bit)

Agree with SledgeDG.

I have a TX and never been able to use HotSync with Win7 x64. I could use the bluetooth option buy my work around is to load everything on a 1Gb SD card and copy from there to the Palm. Yeap, the hard way!

OK, Earlier today, I got the answer from a post I made on the Windows Forum. In the reply, I was directed by a guy called Digerati to a Palm Support forum that had the answer. Down the page a slight bit in the first post is a bit of information he copied from a poster called Candrews. That person's method worked fine. What I have is 64-bit Windows 7 Professional with XP Mode. It's in XP Mode where it works. I'm using Palm Desktop 4.1.4 and it works great.

It takes a couple of clicks more than just hotsyncing, but it works. Best of all, I don't have to copy all my contacts and scheduler into some other system. I'm as happy as a hog in mud.

I use the bluetooth connection to sync contacts, but for photos and memo recordings (limited only by card size on my Palm Centro), I too just pull the card and drag and drop in explorer. Otherwise, it takes way too long to sync.

For those who may still be looking - there IS a functional HotSync driver for Windows 7 x64!

I expected to lose a few of my favorite utility apps when I was forced to migrate to a new machine and Windows 7. But I went ahead anyway and installed the Palm Desktop v4.1.4 on my Windows 7 Pro x64 tower. I was surprised to find that it ran just fine, but the HotSync via USB would not work. A bit of Google searching found this driver, so I tried it. I followed their instructions and was pleasantly surprised to find that I can now sync my Palm Tungsten E with the Desktop app.

It may be old-fashioned in these days of smart phones, but for an old fart who has only a simple phone and still carries a Palm, this was a great find!
