Hi Guys,

I recently Installed Paragon HFS+, For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it is a driver utility that allows Windows Operating systems to be able to detect and have read+write access to HFS/HFS+ Hard drives and file systems (mainly Mac hard drives)

I downloaded the Trial Version from their website, installed and restarted, but would not load past the windows loading, and kept given a BSOD. I did some quick research and found most people were able to boot into a different operating system and delete files from

C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/HFS*.SYS

And then reboot back into windows and un-install correctly.

I wacked in my ubuntu Live CD, Booted in and Deleted 2 drivers that began with HFS, Rebooted, But no luck, I then went back and deleted another two Drivers that I found were from paragon as well. Still no luck, however When ever I reboot now I get a STOP BSOD,

I am unable to boot into windows so still using the Ubuntu live CD, I have attached my Mini-dump file.

If some one could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it

**EDIT**

System Specs

Intel 3.06GHZ Core i7 Lynnfield
Corsair Dominator 3x2GB PC3-12800 C8
GIGABYTE-X58A-UD3R
Intel 520 120GB SSD

Probably the drivers didn't install properly.

Now you have deleted them - not surprised you are getting bsod.

I would either replace the system hive from a recent backupimage /restore point.

Or load the system hive, look thru services for paragon or hfs drivers and set the entries to start type 4.

I don't have a backup or Restore point unfortunately :/

not sure what you mean by the services bit either as I cant boot into windows at all.

I double checked the Bsod and its now a Stop 0x7B code. which usually means hardware failure / disk error. I booted a Hirens boot CD and did a chkdsk on the drive and it completed without any problems. Windows Recovery can't seem to locate the disk I think? I also tried ntfsck and ntfsfix in linux, both passed without any problems :S

There must be something oh Hiren's that will do - registry editor if there is one.

Fire up regedit.

Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE To highlight it.

Click File >load hive.

Browse to yours windows install system32\config.

In there you will find a file called - System.

select it and give it any name - mybum if you like.

In the left pane of regedit, look under HKLM for mybum.

Under mybum\ControlSet001 - expand it to services - find any hfs drivers- in the Right pane set start type to 4.

View attachment 219369

Do the same for any other mybum\ControlSet .

Click on mybum to highlight it.

Got to File >unload hive.

If there was an hfs driver set to start type 0 or 1 that is probably what is causing the trouble.

I have use a lot of Paragon products - but not that particular one - it might also be adding filters.

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately that didn't work :(

There was a start value and a type value, I changed all the hfs start values to 4 with no luck, so changed the type value to 4 as well, still no luck :(

There might be filters somewhere.

I assume you already tried last known good configuration?

It's on the advanced boot menu usually accessed via F8

Another option is to use the system hive in windows\system32\config\regback - it is no good if it is 0kb.

If it looks the right size, just copy it into windows\system32\config and replace the dodgy hive.

I usually replace the software hive as well.
