Solved Parted Magic issue

Sorry if I am in the wrong area, but I was not sure.

My system got hosed, but I have image backups. Now I had another SSD laying around (Samsung) and I wanted to try the Samsung out for my Windows 7. So I figured I can just image my last one to the Samsung, but O could not get off the ground.

In the past I had to wipe out my SSD (Crucial) for another bad moment in life and just for fun. I used Parted Magic. I first watched Sean's video on how to Secure Erase an SSD and back when I had to, no problems.

But now I wanted to do the same thing to my Samsung, but I cannot get Parted Magic to boot. I have the exact same CD I always used from previous which worked, but now it does not. It gets to some screen where I need to do some commands and it tells me I can now use a couple of them. I never get the Secure Erase screen. Then I tried loading Parted Magic on a thumb drive, same results. Other times I just get a curser blinking at the top left corner followed by the screen just turning into strange white blocks. I even made a newer version of Parted Magic, but same results.

So I cannot figure out why a CD that I used several times does not work anymore. Then creating a new one on a brand new CD still gets same results and then even using a thumb has same results. I also used different versions of Parted Magic. So I just wanted to see what I may be missing here or do I need to set something in the BIOS because I tried this on three different computers and same results. I want to load my old image of my Windows 7 machine on to the Samsung SSD, but I cannot get off the ground.

There's no real reason to wipe the SSD unless there are problems with interfering code. Just delete all partitions while applying the image. With our favorite app Macrium Imaging it provides a link below each extant partition to delete it, and then when you drag the needed partitions to the target disk, provides another link under each to resize them as desired. Very cool and easy.

Only if you have conflicting boot code interfering with Win7 boot or install is it really required to wipe a drive, and all that's needed is Diskpart Clean Command from the Win7 installer or Repair CD command line. For more complicated partitioning operations we use Partition Wizard CD which has helped with of thousands of partitioning operations here without a single failure.

Thanks for the reply. I just don't understand why I cannot still use the program when it use to work. Even the thumb. And why it does not work on several systems.

I do have Macrium and that works fine.
