Partition confusion.

I installed windows 7 home premium from bootable disc on partition C:/ and Ultimate on d:/ ,both the windows are dual boot. But when I access windows home the Users directory is correctly visible on drive C:/ and shows the default logo on the drive letter, but when I access Ultimate on d:/ it shows the c:/users directory active in d:/partition which is of drive c:/ and all the data I downloaded in it.

I did the partition format during installation and installed the home premium copy first on c:/ drive and then booted by the same cd and installed ultimate on d:/ drive. What could possibly go wrong why is the user directory of D:/drive not visible on its respective partition than showing c:/drive user directory in d:/ directory.

I changed the booting sequence using BCD. I use Hiren boot cd with partitionmagic to delete and make partitions. But i learnt its a good practice to format the partitions during setup by win7 as ntfs has lots of errors if formatted by 3rd party software.

Thanks.

Hello mayflower, wilcome to Seven Forums!

Start Ultimate and post a snip from there with a description of what is what and maximize the window for the snip so we can have a look for you and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

In the Windows start menu right click computer and click manage, in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window that opens click disk management and post a snip of that.

From what you describe, it sounds as though you installed Ultimate while you were in H Prem and if that's the case this is what the drive letters will remain as there is no safe way to change them without causing serious issues.

Do not use Partition Magic as it will mess up your Win7. Use free Partition Wizard bootable CD.

But in this case you do not need to use a 3rd party partition manager: Wipe the HD to overwrite any code which could be conflicting, then boot the DVD of OS you want in first partition to create its partition and install. Next boot the other DVD to create and install to the second partition.

This should correctly configure the Dual Boot after making sure no conflicting boot sector code is interfering.
