Partition Corrupt

My original thread.

I installed a new copy of windows 7 on my 2nd partition (the one i dont care about). And Im in my computer and i see my 3 drives, Recovery (10gb), C140gb), and E: (doesnt say space etc).

When I try to open E: which is where all my files I need are it says

E:\ is not accessible
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

This all happened after I tried to resize my 2 main partitions, one was originally 70 gb and my current working one was about 210 gb and I took 70 off to go to the other. Which leaves me with 140 gb on my fresh copy of w7 , and doesnt say the ammount on my corrupt partition.

I absolutely need to get it to boot or at least try to get my files off of it. Any ideas?

I would use partition recovery software such as Active Undelete to scan the drive for files which are recoverable. Sounds as though the partition has become corrupted as a result of trying to resize partitions. I know that Active Undelete will find files even if the partition has been deleted or reformatted.

Use disk management in Win 7 to ascertain exactly what is on you hard drive and posting a screenshot would be helpful.

You're going to need some sort of recovery software.
FWIW - I haven't had good luck recovering things from corrupted partitions.
I'd suggest that you use this free software to see what's recoverable: Data Recovery Software - Hard Drive Recovery - RAID Recovery - Runtime Software (don't pay for it until you run it to see what's recoverable)

Then, if it is recoverable, it's either worth the $80 for you to recover it then and there - or you can look around for a free option since you know it's recoverable.

A word to the wise - don't use the drive for anything, not even to look at it. Wait until the recovery software tells you what's up - then decide from that.

Hi Redman,

It looks like your partition table is currupt.
First of all i will suggest you to recover your data using a 3rd party tool, you will find all the free ones on this website (Free data Recovery Software Roundup! (All freeware data recovery tools.))

Once you have recovered the data reformat the e: drive with ntfa

Finally: never alter the size of a drive if you have data on it, always back up the data and then make changes.
