partition HD questions - tutorials differ....

hello,

HD partition tutorials show different setups than mine so need to figure how to make changes. tutorials all show disk 0 and disk one but in my computer management I only have disk 0 and no disk 1. so would i first click on C and shrink that volume? this will create empty space to make the new partition which will be used for data files? Or is there a tutorial that has pics like my system.

I would suggest using Gparted to delete all partition, the create a partition about 70 GB in size.

When you get back into Windows, you can go to Disk management and format the unallocated partition.

The reason i say this is because Windows cannot shrink the partition to that small of a size,

I also recommend you install all your 3rd party apps on the D: or E: drive

reghakr, couldn't he use GPartD to shrink the C: drive to 70 or 80MB, then create a new partition in the free space rather than deleting the partition?

That way there would be no need to reinstall, which may not be possible if the computer came with Windows 7 installed and there is no DVD to reinstall from.

Also, if there is a hidden recovery partition then he needs to be very careful if that is the only means available to reinstall Windows 7.

hey thanks, problem solved...

wandered thru micrsoft help pages and ended up shrinking C and then creating a new partition F. Now trying to see if we can rename F to D and the optical drives to E and F lol.
