Partition left after re install question.

I re installed win 7 but accidentally deleted some partitions so now i have just one partition which is drive C .

Is that OK or should i use a program to split it up.

No problem with just having one partition, most people like to seperate stuff on different partitions but its up to you and of course depends on the size of your HDD

Well, IMO, you must split it up into 2 at least and keep the Windows partition as small as possible so that it remains clutter free. Having only 1 partition will force you to install everything on C: resulting in fragmentation, clutter, will be harder to manage your files, and finally result in slowdowns.

Best is having 3 partitions: C: dedicated to Windows and little apps; D: dedicated to software installations; E: dedicated to media stuff.

That's how I prefer to manage things.

As Pauly says there's nothing wrong with having one partition.

Another method that's become popular due to the rise of backup imaging in order to keep the image smaller, is to have a second data drive for your files, with either the User folders moved there as shown in User Folders - Change Default Location or a copy of each user folder placed there linked to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums. This keeps the backup image smaller so that if Win7 becomes irreparable you can reimage it in 20 minutes while the data is current and waiting in its partition.

Your programs should always be on C since they integrate themselves into the OS until uninstalled.
