free- partition wizard, gparted,
trial/buy-Paragon partition manager, Acronis disk director.
I'd recommend partition wizard.

I would suggest the Partition Wizard Boot Disk (PWBD) the installable version has certain issues that the boot disk doesn't seem to have; download the PWBD ISO file to the desktop, be sure to get the PWBD and not the installed version; scroll down to see the download link for the bootable CD ISO file at this link below.

I think you get the idea - PW is the ultimate.

PW CD: Hundreds of complicated partitioning operations here without fail.

Others: Regularly reported failures with data loss, especially Easeus.

Greg, for the record I have to report that I once wiped out a whold disk with PW. But that was my own stupidity. Fortunately I had images of most everything (2 data partitions, 1 Vista partition and a Vista recovery partition which was the only one where I only had the DVDs).

That is why I highly recommend to always take images of ALL partitions on a drive that you are about to manipulate.

I never had any issues with Easeus - are you sure they were using recent version?

User error is likely also.

I don't think they do a boot disc with the free easeus - which is a shame.

I have a higher edition of Easeus - works beautifully.

The best free one is probably PW - they do a Pro version - good for the money.

If you really want something serious - Paragon - you need to go for Pro or higher - not cheap.

Was it the PW CD? Home Edition has had a few failures I've seen but never the CD version which does the work virtually before applying it. (So does the Home Version but the OS can interfere.)

+1 on backing up which must be done on any partitioning or repair operation.
