Solved Partitioned drive and somehow it removed the boot file

I tried the repair fron 7 dvd and no luck. I also tried this

The DISKPART program recognizes a set of commands.
Most of the ones of interest to you were given in another post.
· type DiskPart, Enter key
· type List disk, Enter key
note the numeral of the disk you want to clean
for example purposes, I’ll be using the numeral 0
· type Select disk 0, Enter key
· type Detail disk, Enter key
this info will let you know if you selected correctly
· type Select Partition 1, Enter key
this selects the Win 7 partition
· type Active, Enter key
this declares the partition as the boot partition
· type EXIT, Enter key (this exits DiskPart)
· type EXIT, Enter key (this gets you back where you were)


and this came up

virtual disk service error: the specific partition type is not valid for this operation

I tried gparted and nothing will let me make my main drive the active boot one again.

Do I have to take into the shop and have them fix it since they would have more options or is it something I can fix? I need a fix fast.

Is there a way for me to get the main drive which is partitioned into 2 cloned and then just reformat my whole drive and then clone the files back onto the drive? I'm just fishinbg here.

Is there a win 7 live disk that can be used like the knoppix live?

Can you please start from the beginning and help us help you???

It appears that you have more than 1 HDD, is this the case? Or are you referring to the partitions on a single drive?

If multiple HDDs... which drive did you partition? Boot HDD or other?

Your question is severly lacking in detail...

I have 3 hard drives. My main one is partition into 2. (Drive c and I) I went to resize the c drive and acronis disk manager somehow made that added space into another partitrion and made that a boot one. Not sure if Acronis did that but drive x wound up being the boot drive which I didn't realized until I deleted in through gparted. For some reason my main drive was listed as gpt whatever that was and I never saw my drives listed like that so I converted it to MBR through acronis and now I'm wondering if that is what messed it up.

Now I can't make the c drive which says E in the command prompt the boot one active. Even in the repair win 7 the os isn't there to select to repair.

I ran repair several times but I guess it's not going to work if win 7 isn't listed in the option to repair.

At this point I'm willing to bet that you've royally fouled things up trying to "fix" it. Your only choice may be to reinstall Win7...

Can you send a screen shot of disk management screen?

Also, try removing/unplugging other drives and using only the old C... any changes?

Guess what? I noticed that it had my drives listed as logical so I did a search through this forum and found how to change a logical to primary. Did that through partition wizard boot disk. I had to set the second partition of my main drive which is C and I, so it wouldn't let me set c to primary so I did I and went back to c and then I was able to set that to primary.

Went back into repair mode and there was my win 7 listed there and was able to do the 3 times repair.

Now I'm back in business, now I have to print all this info and hope I don't need it again.
