Partitioning an SSD

Running 7 home 64 on a 128 gig ssd. Disk has ~55 gig free space. Want to create a partition to re-load the os, while still keeping/using the existing install/partition until I have the replacement set up. But windows partition will not let me create a partition larger than 11 gig, DESPITE there being 5 times that amount of free space. I was hoping for about 30 gig. And YES, the entire disk has been defrag'd. What do I have to do to get the bloody thing to "let me" create a larger partition?

There is no explanation way you cant make a new partition on the drive.
Open disk manager, expand the columns and, with the sniping tool, take a snapshot and post it here as an attachment (Go Advanced - Manage Attachments - Browse - Upload)

SSD's doesn't need defragmentation. And you can damage the SSD. Don't do it again.

Indeed don't defrag a ssd they use trim and defrag should be disabled

You can use free mini tool to create a partition
Make sure both are aligned as well

Having 2 installs with the same activation key is against terms of use.

It's my understanding there are some Windows files that are unmovable while Windows is running.
That might be why you can't shrink the C partition by more than 11 GB with Windows Disk Management.
Minitool Partition Wizard BOOTABLE CD might be able to shrink the partition more than 11 GB because Windows is not running so these files are movable.

Make sure you create a System Image backup before making any changes.

I always attach another physical drive when i want to make disk structure changes such as this.
I "build the new drive" the way i want it.
Then disconnect the current drive, and boot from the new drive.
Make sure everything works with the new drive.
This way there are no changes to the current drive until i know everything will work correctly.

What you're trying to do wont give what you want.
Assume that you're able to create a new partition on the free space of the existing partition and install win 7 on it. This new partition will be on the right of first one. When you set it up and delete the fist partition you wont be able to expand the second partition to the left where it was the fist partition.

My suggestion is to backup all your data, disconnect ALL other disks and do a clean install (go advanced - delete all partitions - create new - Proceed.
