partitioning and dual booting advice (netbook ...eeek)

installing ubuntu on my hp mini netbook!!

i have to install/dual boot ubuntu on my hp mini.. but i guess i m facing some problems!
when i come to allocate drive space,, i cannot select the the unallocated drive i shrinked from my windows 7!! what shud i do..
its not the first time i m installing ubuntu.. just the first with my netbook!!
please give me some solution!
i need to do some work on it!!

Hi Zainab,

I think what you need to do is, go back into windows 7, and on the partition with unallocated space, right click it and select an option, I'm not sure which one, 'new volume' or 'format' should do it.

It will then be picked up by linux, then you can tell linux to use it as an ext4 partition, and dont forget to select the '/' to make it boot. You may also need a little partition of a few GB for 'swapspace' , but you dont have to.

if i forma the new unallocated drive then it says i wont be able to boot from any drive at all! so i guess someone told me its about the hard drive being the drive encrypted!!
