Dynamic disks error!!

Sorry about bumping up such an old thread, but my predicament is quite similar to the one in the thread.

I have just bought a Lenovo Ideapad with a 500GB hard disk running windows 7 home basic.

I am not able to create partitions as when I try to make the partition, it keeps saying something like Dynamic disks are not supported.

Have shrunk the volume and now it is lying as unallocated as not able to create a new partition out of it.

Have also put out a screenshot.

Could anyone please help me out.

I'd probably start a new thread with a screenshot of Windows Disk Management.

DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT say yes to dynamic.

You likely need Partition Wizard, particularly if you already have said yes to dynamic partitions.

Ooops...missed out on the attachment.

Had said yes to creating dynamic disks, but it threw up an error saying dynamic disks not supported in this system.

Download Partition Wizard bootable disk, from the bottom of this link:

Burn it to a disk and boot from it.

That 300 GB is not yet a partition. You need to make it into a Logical partition in Partition Wizard. Don't do anything to the other partitions.

PW is quite self-explanatory, but there is a tutorial on this site for it if you need to use it.

Tried partitioning using the Partition wizard, but it says it cannot create a partition here, no free MBR slots on the disk!!

I would use the Partition Wizard CD to mark your C: Drive active, mark the system reserved partition inactive. Then use your windows 7 dvd to run a startup repair ( up to 3 times ) to get your C: drive booting. Delete the system reserve partition, then combine it with your C: Drive using the PWizard cd. You will then only have 3 primary partitions and could use the PWizard cd again to make a 4th Primary Partition of your unallocated 300 GBs.

Did you try to make a primary partition?

Or did you try to make a logical partition?

Are you using the burned CD version of PW?

The best way to add partitions when you wish to keep the factory Recovery/OEM partitions functioning is to use free Partition Wizard CD to convert C to Logical, then add as many adjacent Logical partitions as you wish. As Long as C remains booted from the Primary System Reserved partition then the OS will be fine.

You can always extend the Windows partition to re-include the unallocated space then use Method Two of this tutorial linked below to create additional useful space; be sure to post bak here if further help is needed.
