I recently changed the password for my account. Now I cant remember what I changed it to.

A couple of problems that I have are;
-I am the administrator for this computer, as I am the only user.
-I do not have a backup disc, reset disc, or whatever else it was that I needed.

It is worth noting a couple of things;
I recently did a backup to an external HDD.
I also have access to this account via a fingerprint scanner.

Knowing this information, can anyone tell me if there is a way to reset my password so that I dont have to rely on the fingerprint?

If I have a Windows 7 disc, is it possible for me to reinstall over the top of my existing files and not have to worry about losing everything?
Or can I reinstall the windows 7 platform and then use the backup from my external HDD and have a cleared password???

Thanks in advance

Hi welcome to the forum

are you able to log on using the finger print scanner? if so then you should be able to change the password.

Yes, I can get on that way. However, when trying to change my password, it asks for my current password

one option would be to create a new account and move your files to the new account.

I'd prefer not to go that route...

Wow, you didn`t write it down :rolleyes:

Not something you can easily remember ?

Did you make a backup or create a disk image to this external drive, if you created a disk image, you can just use that to restore windows.

Yes, with a Windows 7 install dvd, you can just re install windows.

A password on a non work pc is useless, anyone could get into it with Linux.

ZombieProphet, if you can login to the account which is an administrator, you can fire up an elevated command prompt and enter:
Code:
net user "UserNameHere" ""
This resets your password to nothing.

or activate the hidden administrator account by using an elevated command prompt then type this command:
net user administrator active:/yes - :o this is wrong
then restart your computer, you can see an administrator account when it boots up, go to users then change the password of the user you want to reset the password.

My bad:
net user administrator /active:yes - :)
