Desktop with Asus Z77 Sabertooth MB. First boot after last patch Tuesday's successful restart and I get the Boot Manger error Windows Failed to Start 0xc000000f. Put the original Microsoft (as in purchased from) Windows 7 Ultimate x64 DVD in the drive, click repair, and I receive "This version of Windows Recovery Options is not compatible with the version you are trying to repair".

Put in 2 different iso's of Win 7 x64 that I had created some time back. Get the same error messages.

I had never requested the Win 10 download and uninstalled the icon KB to get it off the taskbar.

Booted an old Macrium reflect backup for the machine (wish I'd written the date on the disc) and it shows one instance of Windows 7 x64 on the correct HD.

Booted UBCD 5.2.7 and ran a quick disk check with no errors.

Suggestions welcome. Not sure why I'm getting an incorrect OS error on the restore.
Thanks,
AJG

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I have read some asus mother boards I assume that have a 100mb efi system reserved partition instead of a 100mb ntfs partition are seeing secure boot errors

I only have C drive or partition on a x99 sabertooth and no problems.
But most needed to disable secure boot to rectify the issue.
Or switch the os type to Other os instead of windows uefi compatibility mode.

Also disable fast start I believe might help.

Thanks Thrashzone but I think I'm now at a HW failure stage as I can not get the machine to post. Errors differ each start attempt. I can get into bios but all the fans are below threshold. Then all the drives disappeared. Cleared CMOS and disconnected everything but main drive and still hit the fan threshold forcing me into bios again.

Well, I just set secure boot to other OS and the darn thing booted right up. But, all the fan speeds are well below threshold settings of 600 rpms. So maybe other issues as well. I'm going to try to restore to a pre-patch Tuesday date and see what happens.

Yup, a 1TB Black. It's always been somewhat noisy (chattering) but has worked well for 3 years now. Boots fine until I connected other devices. Could hear the fans drop in speed with HDD activity. Shut the system down and figure I'll need a new power supply and then remove that MS update referenced in the link you provided (Thank you very much - that sure explains it). For others, the offending KB seems to be KB3133977 in which MS changed their Secure boot policies.

Hunting for a new power supply and maybe a replacement HDD while I can still clone it today.

Thanks for the recommendation. Was just researching now.

Just put an EVGA G2 750 in and everything is up and running as long as change secure boot to "Other OS". Tried uninstalling the offending KB, but still can not boot unless Other OS is selected. Will leave as is.

Thanks for your help!!!
