Pauses in certain games

Several of the higher intensity 3D games sometimes produce sparingly a half second pause with a short amount of time then repeating 3 or 4 times then going back to normal operation. I don't know what is going on but it's more annoying than a serious problem. What could be causing this?

Games that are affected:
PAYDAY 2
Firefall
Warframe

Games that are not affected:
Doom / Doom 2
Most other games on my Steam list

Not a fan of PC games anymore, but this kind of pauses sounds more like "lag". Is your internet connection stable?

Also check if you have any anti-virus software installed, will be good if they have those gaming mode to avoid any network disruption because you wouldn't want a prompt coming out in the middle of your game. Big factor for winning and losing!

I have a fast internet (FIOS 80/30ish) and stable connection and as far as I know, both Warframe and Payday 2's directories are set for exclusion from being scanned by Avast. I also close down everything that might use CPU and bandwidth before playing such games.
