Pc-1 on new win install in infinite loop w/ format done> how access

Are you sure the other disk you tried is good?

Doesn't make sense that it won't verify either disk, unless both are bad! Not likely but possible.

Try the VSO-Inspector.

Did it work the last time you played it?

Without enabling autoplay again, you can run a DVD/CD from Computer screen, but you'll have to choose the .exe (executable) file on the disk. You can randomly click to try to find the .exe program or:

To display known file types extensions:

Click Start ORB
Click Control Panel
Click Appearance and Personalization
Folder Options popup click View Tab
Uncheck Hide Extensions of Know File types
Click OK
Insert your Dancing DVD in drive
Go to Control Panel
Double-left click DVD
Window should open with contents of DVD listed

Here you want to click the filename with the extension: .exe (executable file)

If the disk plays it obviously works.

What we're trying to ultimately accomplish with the disks is to verify that your installation disk(s) are in good working order.
If they're not:
Attempt to recover the data on the defective DVD
& then
Copy the recovered data to new DVD.

I'd try the VSO-Inspector I suggested above with the included instructions:
If that doesn't complete or run, I'm a little confused at that point!

Just to do it under via normal usage, I was able to play the dance dvd. Di I do it before. Like I think I mentioned before, My normal usage of any cd or DVD has been rare. But I also forgot I had the VLC player installed so that might have interfered with what you were doing. I dunno

Anyways, the DVD plays just fine, visual and audio. J

Both the dance dvd and the Gateway services 1st dvd absolutely perfect. No yellow or red entries. So this means the dvd's are good I take it.

Also mean they can be burned too?

You're losing me here.

You said ImgBurn wouldn't verify disk(s).

What changes since that post?

If ImgBurn verified disk it means it's readable/no errors.

Did ImgBurn verify both disks?

If it verified your install disk 1, I'd try it in the non-working PC again.

If it doesn't work I'd try the running VSO-Inspector to check, not only the surface, but the files contained therein. Takes awhile to complete the File Test.

I was talking about "VSO-Inspector" result you wanted me to run.

I just did it and, soooo: Both the dance dvd and the Gateway services 1st dvd tested absolutely perfect. No yellow or red entries.

So this means the dvd's are good I take it.

Also mean they can be burned too?

Sorry, Jim

yes, if they didn't show any errors they are apparently good.

Burned TOO?

Your DVD is most likely DVD-R or DVD+R, you cannot burn/add anything to it, and is most likely finalized.

Apparently your install media, disk 1 checks out. Did you try it again in your non-working machine?

If you try it again and it has same issue, I'd try making a copy of it & trying that copy in your non-working machine.

I'm running out of ideas, without you having to spend some money.

Nice if one of your friends had a copy of Win7x64 you could borrow!

Are you saying I should be able to use a cd or dvd win7 disc to install it on the bad PC1? Pretty sure we tried that did we not?

I have the win pro disc and can later add sp1 since sp1 is missing, seems to me. Right <> wrong ?

But the gtw. dvd disk stopped working after the format. Why?

Also, would you mind giving me your opinion on a potential solution that was proposed? It's in this thread on page 2 post 19 by Technomage2016, who states:

"It's most likely that the installer doesn't like what it's seeing on the HD. I've had that happen and I just disconnect the HD from it's own PC and connect the drive to my Main PC (as a slave) and use a Partition Manager, on my own PC, to wipe the HD.
Then with a 'Clean' drive, the installer will work OK.

There are several versions on that theme, but one will usually work."

Seems feasible but that's just me thinking. Thanks again, Jim

Yes, try it again, if it doesn't work, we'll try another route. I was attempting to ascertain the status of your DVD install disk which we did. If it was damaged/corrupt, it wouldn't have made any sense to continue trying to use it, regardless of a format of the HDD from another media (DVD/CD). Which is the next step if it still doesn't work.

Win7x32 Pro won't work with your 64 bit product key.

I'm trying to work with what you have, without purchasing anything, having to open the tower on both your machines or purchasing additional equipment.

Try running your install disk, the one we verified, on your non-working machine.

Yes, I know, you tried it before and it didn't work. If it doesn't work this time, we'll try wiping the HDD from DVD/CD. I've been perusing several different disk wipe utilities, trying to locate one that is easy/simple to use and will boot from either DVD/CD or USB (much faster from USB).

Been trying to save you from opening both towers, removing the HDD from non-working machine, installing it as slave (2nd drive) on working machine, formatting, cloning drive A (working Master) to Drive B (non-working Slave), Testing boot of cloned drive, removing the freshly cloned drive, reinstalling it in your non-working machine.

Thanks for the appreciative remarks! I assume anyone I help appreciates it, but nice to hear nonetheless!

I'm on here (SevenForums) because I enjoy helping others with their computer problems, and hopefully informative dialog will help others better understand computers. Also learn from other's posts. I've worked as a teacher's aide in the past, helping others obtain their GED. I currently assist elderly or low income individuals with their tax returns (until mid April each year)

I understand absolutely and your attitude is appreciated greatly. I too help other but in other ways. In this low income older folks apt, a number of people have no vehicle but I do so I am the get a ride man. Also just went out & picked up craigslist furniture, kitchen utensils, bathroom furnishings, etc for a disabled gal that was in true need. I do stop short when it becomes
absolutely clear that my generosity is knowingly being abused.

Its a good feeling isn't it! You can be proud of it! I am!

and GOOOD news I think. Put the #1 Gtw disc in and started. WOW, a new activity so I held up & let windows do its thing.

First, in a usual black background, it started in saying ( just caught the highlights): "The file system is NTFS Volume, Label is gateway. One of your discs needs to be checked. For consistency...windows will now check the disc...revovering orphan file.bmp (great big long list of different .bmp files). when that listing got done, it went to the startup Gateway splash window
and said "windows is loading files" then said "starting windows". P.s. at this point, I was about to pee my pants. He Ha!
Then a new window finally opens. At the top left it says Gateway Recovery Management. Below that it says Choose your language.

Sooo its setting up its install. I left it right there. YAY! YAY! I'll hold tight until you reply. Thanks, Jim

AWESOME in capitals!

Are you aware you can install most Win updates in a cumulative update? I'll research same and determine what prerequisites are required if any, before that. Saves you quite a few hours & data usage doing updates.

How to Update Windows 7 All at Once with Microsoft's Convenience Rollup

On your freshly installed Win7 machine
Temporarily disable Window Update
Type Windows Update in search, choose Windows Update, choose change settings, under important updates drop-down menu, choose Never Check For Updates. You change this back to Install Updates Automatically, AFTER you have installed SP1 & Convenience Rollup/Cumulative updates.

Download and install, in this order:

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932) Make sure you choose this one

Servicing Stack Update

Convenience Rollup

If they both install correctly, change win update back to Auto.

You'll have more updates, but that covers the first 221 give or take.

Consider an External Hard Drive for backups, read my footer on my posts!
I don't recommend Windows built in backup as it's failed customers and I more than once.
Many on SevenForums recommend Macrium Reflect, which I demoed and do as well. The GUI (graphical user interface) is a little more daunting for the novice but can be navigated successfully.
I use AOMEI Backupper Standard, simple GUI, good for newbies/novices

I have a Seagate 3TB I purchased a few years ago for $130 US
They are much cheaper now. A little Googling will provide you a plethora of reviews.
You don't have to purchase the most expensive

News (not so good:(: ) Went thru the whole loooog GTWY process until the Language pack disk. Then thw the windows install began. But wound up with this:

The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows click to restart the computer and then restart the installation.

After 4 attempts at that, here I am on the working PC2 with you.

I am afraid your likely to say, “you have to do it all over again” but dunno so I'll do what I gotta do. Jim

4 attempts since we verified disk 1?

Try the verify disk again, on the disk that the system error occurred, with VSO-Inspector, you should have the nohow now to check it. While you're at it, check the remaining disks as well. If there are issues with any disk, note the disk # & we can try recovery of data and burn a new disk. If you get all green, try the disk in the machine we're trying to install it on.
