well firefox froze up and it locked up my pc so maybe this aint a hdd error some how firefox maybe the culprit

It may be graphics card or memory related. There are no known problems with Firefox.


Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).



Download and install HWiNFO64 Download to check hardware temperatures.



Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-hardware-stress-test-prime95.html to determine any hardware problems. Run each test for a few hours or until you get errors. Post back if you get errors.



Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory.

i dont know if this would be any useful info but after my pc locked up i had to reboot and i got this message

this can be caused by unplugging a removeable storage device such as a usb

ok ran memtest for 10 hours 7 pass's and no errors was found
ill run windows memory diagnostics tool 2morrow
i have already ran it and no errors was found but ill do it again

That message indicates that your hard disk has corrupted or damaged sectors again. Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html with both boxes checked, again. This is beginning to look like a failing drive, so backup any important data as soon as the disk check completes.

Good news is, idle temperatures look good.

If you end up replacing the hard disk, see if it improves stability.

got most if not all files backed up
the reason i thought firefox was causing the issue

windows replaced bad clusters in file 862
firefox/profile/harmms-1.def/places-2.sql

as of right now firefox is running good

you dont think reformatting the hdd then reinstalling windows would fix the issue

Bad clusters means you had bad/damaged (physically damaged) sectors. This is a mechanical problem with the hard drive. Physically damaged sectors by itself does not mean the drive is failing; drives are actually designed for bad sectors and have spare sectors to replace them. However, if the head is running into sectors and clobbering them, damaged sectors will mount to a point where there are not enough spares to replace them. That is one way in which a hard drive may cease to work. That is why I said that if you continue to have hard disk related problems, you should consider the drive as failing. I would run disk check again and see if any more bad clusters are found.

well since that its been running good i thought i would get some stuff done while i had the chance no errors no problems since
ill be rebooting and running disk check again before going to bed

well i ran check disk and nothing like in post 28 showed up
also
chkdsk is verifying free space stage 5 of 5 use to say
4xxx of 70xxxxxx
now it says
4xxx of 69xxxxxx

Glad that the disk seems clean now. Must have just had some bad sectors that accumulated through normal use. The stage 5 of 5 difference just means you have less free clusters available, so you probably added some data to other clusters that used to be free. Nothing to worry about. Keep doing your normal routine for a few days and post back stability. Best of luck!

well my pc ran good for well over 24 hours of web browsing and ect.
so i think that is a good sign

is it possible that Malwarebytes and microsoft security essentials was making the pc lag and freeze here & there
since reinstalling avast and uninstalling those im thinking i'm getting no problems

Did you have both security systems running at the same time? We recommend running MSE as the real-time protection and Malwarebytes as a standalone scanner (not using the free trial). If you were running both, it definitely could have slowed your system down. Two security systems that accomplish the same task running at the same time are known to cause conflicts.

thought i had Malwarebytes real time disable but maybe it didn't work for some odd reason
but since removing both of them and going back to avast free its been running good
ill post back if any error R changes happen
