Hello everyone,This post is about which platform is the least coastliest way of Gaming

you have xbox360 Ps3 PsP Wii Etc............

I basicly got into a bitter war in a gamming chat over the benefits of pc gaming over console and not to many console gamers could come up with a valid proof that Pc gaming is way more expensive then buying a console paying $50 per game not to mention controlers downloadble content that you have to buy also even if you have dsl or cable you would stil have to pay a fee to online game on any system besides pc

The argument i recieved is i have to update my gpu every year and the games that will be new in 3 years wouldnt work on my gpu

to me that statement wasa joke because 5 games for a console would pay for a kick ass gpu but if your conservitive you could get a gpu for atleast for what they paid for 3 games

Please console gamer and Pc games give me you're thoughts it is time for DEBATE!

Let me start by saying I own both a PC and Xbox so I honestly don't care what conclusion people come to because either way I win.

Hello everyone,This post is about which platform is the least coastliest way of Gaming

Console, hands down. Not doubt about that at all.

paying $50 per game not to mention controlers downloadble content that you have to buy also even if you have dsl or cable you would stil have to pay a fee to online game on any system besides pc
Most new games for my 360 will cost me £45 tops. New PC games retail will be much cheaper, but since I buy on Steam they still tend to be £35 or above. Specially for the likes of Battlefield and CoD. So there's not much difference there.

Same argument for controllers could be made about mouse and keyboard. Some people like to get stupidly fancy mouse and keyboard set ups that cost a ton.

I think the only system that charges for online play is 360. To be fair you get a far better service than the other consoles. Patches and updates being an example. Nearly always small files on 360 but huge downloads on PS3.

The argument i recieved is i have to update my gpu every year and the games that will be new in 3 years wouldnt work on my gpu
Well you don't have to do that. A good GPU could last you three years. Yeah, it won't be top end but it will still run pretty good. Plus Consoles try to get like a 10 year life span. A game on on both consoles and PC will probably look better on the 3 year old GPU than the 3 year old console.

It's really a case of each to their own. I've said in other threads I use my systems for different things. My 360 is what I use for DVD play, big MP games that I want to play with friends, exclusives and FIFA type games that don't benefit from PC. I use the PC for exclusives, games that have MP but I don't care about and want a better SP experience with all the optional extras.

Yeah, people who say PC gaming is dead don't seem to have a clue. As far as I know Valve constantly report that Steam is forever growing. I think the big boost in consoles isn't so much people jumping over from PC but just more people gaming in general. Both platforms will continue to grow. PC aint going anywhere.

i might also add that Microsoft i(who hasnt released a PC game in 3 years) is advocating for developing pc games now and has 3 games to come out soon.

QUOTE]

I wouldn't say every year but ...

With a PC, a GPU upgrade and your good to go.

A console .... You just have to buy the new next Gen Console.

IMHO, PC is the way to go.

Mostly because all they are capable of doing (other than Gaming)

Plus, as far as gaming goes, a PC can be a much more powerful than any console.
And, easily upgraded.

Then, you've also got the aspect of Modding Games (look at FO3 and Oblivion for example)

Pcs are just a lot better IMHO, especially if you are only choosing 1 or the other.

Consoles are less costly...but they offer less options, more simplistic gameplay, less modifications and often graphics that are a bit lacking.

I'm not sure how you can say that a kick butt gaming card is "only" the same price as 5 console games. You gotta buy those PC games too. Sure, maybe they are $10 cheaper at launch (or in the case of StarCraft 2, the same price).

depends on how much gameing you do, the 10$ extra per game does add up. 10 games is already $100 more then 10 pc games.

and activision is just being greedy by always tacking on the $10 now.

I was always hooked on the pc, because at the time xbox live was not that well developed. I was in the whole Medal of Honor movement to Call of Duty. I loved playing on my comp, then I got an xbox and did that a little here and there. I still played more on the computer than any console. I had a PS2 and an XBox because i wanted to play games they didn't make for all of them. These days the game has changed. They make most all games for every platform and Xbox and PS3 try to lure you by having things like achievements etc... I actually get drawn to that for some reason.

Computer gamers are generally more mature, I have found in the past. Most people I have met on live are extremely immature and annoying. Most kids can fairly easily get hold of an xbox, a game, and a subscription for atleast a month which kinda ruins it for me. Since a majority of them yell into the mic, teamkill, smack talk, etc... That is one reason I am not updating my pc and am leaning toward pc gaming. I now use my new slim for streaming movies from my pc...

I once played games for fun but at some point it turned into a choir more than an activity to have fun, I want to the fun back.

when buying pc games i ussually buy the ones that will have a endless amout of time on online play with achivments co op etc

so most of the time i stick to atleast 1 or 2 games per year i would say im not big on buying the latest im content with more into getting to expert levels to be so good i can basicly carry a team when things go wrong

i see most of the time consoles sales mostly are from sport games which the pc has as well I guess they see it as cheaper but in the long run they'll spend another 400 for the next big thing I seriously dont see any Console gaming memebers defending themselves hahaha

There are still quite a few gamers on this site :)

For some it's all about being on the 'team'. For others, the team is a means to an end in order to play games. My 'team' is "Team Best Game Experience".

One big thing is that some people prefer gaming on a console. There is something relaxing about 'turn on machine/play game'. It just cant be replicated on PC. What you lose in bells and whistles, you make up for in ease of use.

On PC you have to get the games to work and work smoothly - time spent tweaking is time detracted from the 'gaming experience'. (With some titles I spent more time fiddling than I did playing)

As always, there are pros and cons to each. There is also no 'correct' answer. All that matters is that we all play games. Who cares how we play them?

*Although I must admit with a bit of bragging involved, that I do have a rocking PC/360 setup.

A higher end PC - Racing cockpit with mouse+kbd stand, Dedicated 40" TV, Dedicated 5.1, Top shelf wheel/pedal combo, A cool R2D2 themed 360 and a Thermaltake GT case that matches the 360. Best of both worlds. I love my man corner ;) )

Close.jpg

Wide.jpg

Or I could always use my monitor at the desk. Basically, I have no real preference apart from getting the most of out games- regardless of platform.

I've always been a console gamer, mostly from the lack of experience with Pc's when i was younger. but as i have got a larger grip on the world of pc's and upgrading, i have slowly been drawn to playin games on pc. I still am (at the moment) a console gamer, but come the time my Xbox Live needs renweing i cant see my self paying the £30-40 to renew it when i can play for free on Steam.

Looks like my Xmas list is gonna be full of Steam coupons :D

I've never really been a console gamer, mainly because of 2 simple facts: 1: For the past 12 years, graphics have been better on the PC compared to the older consoles. And 2: You can't add mods to any of the games on a console, which to me, isn't cool. I'd get bored with all my games if I couldn't add or take away the things in the games. I get bored (depending on which game it is) fairly quickly after I've already beaten it (without mods) on any difficulty, unless I can add mods to the game.

ME2 was one of those games. I couldn't add any mods, and after I beat it; I said "Okay! Boring now! Lets see if there's any mods!). Found out there's no mods. I said "Well okie dokie then. Bye bye!" It's been sitting on my shelf ever since then. I play the 360 with my friends who live in my house once in a while, but I'm just not really into consoles. Plus they want 50-60$ for a single 360 controller? Kinda high priced, if you ask me.

As for PC's, yes, they can cost thousands if you're going for the highest tech stuff, but that'll last you years (about as long as a console will last you), so whoever said PC's don't last as long obviously never had a computer last them 10 years if you keep it clean. (you have to clean consoles, too, don't forget).

With PC's, you can have up to 64 players, depending on the game. Consoles? You're lucky to even get 2 players without Live *rolls my eyes*. The advantages to the PC multiplayer is vastly higher than consoles when it comes to availability. Just plug the computers into a Router or switch/hub, and you're pretty much good to go on LAN even with 5 or 6 pc's.

Big PC gamer myself, and buy PC games if theres a choice.

But, I do love my PS3 as well.Just got it recently. Mostly just get the excluves games for it, or games that are excluvic to the consoles.

For me, I like PC better simply beacuse it runs better, looks better, and FPS type games are far better with Mouse/KB. Plus, RTS and SIM type games are just non-existant or utter crap on a console. (If your into those type of games)

But, I also see vaild points from the console side of things as well.

If you can, a gaming PC and at least 1 console of your choice for certain games is a good way to go.
