PC locks up

One of the PCs is often overloaded with too much open & locks up. Why it locks up may or may not be too many browsers & programs open. It's sluggish just freezes every now & then.


Are there any tuning tools I can run to ensure the PC is healthy.


Are there any Tune-up style programs for win7 that used to be everywhere for XP?


And the only anti-virus sort of thing I have is Malware bytes premium. Is there anything I can add that will not slow the PC down?


(NB Our net surfing is very conservative not straying into porno territory etc)

Worth uninstalling any programs you no longer use/need.

Reboot.

Then run cleanmgr.exe. It will probably find not only temp files, but also superseded updates that it can clean out.

Then rt click the windows partition >properties>tools > "check now" to check and fix any filesystem errors. It will do it at next restart.

Lastly run defrag if it is a mechanical disk.

All antivirus will slow some things a bit. The microsoft security essentials isn't bad for a freebie.

More thorough cleaning from Admin CMD, runs will all options checked.
