Hi, this only happened recently and i cannot find the reason.
I was transferring some video files to my nas via wireless no problem there usual slow transfer, i went to move the cursor and it stuck then eventually it moved, I tried a few other things and they took forever to open etc. The thing is according to my system monitor nothing was being used, appx 800MB out of 6GB of ram and 1/2% of cpu.
Any one any ideas it's not as if i have a particularly slow PC:confused:

The slightly weird thing though is that in normal idle my PC wil be using 1200/1500MB of ram.

Cheers

Raz

Run a Chkdsk. Slow speeds suggest that It could be your hard disk that it going faulty.

My guess would be that the HDD is the bottleneck. With such a heavy load on the disk controller, you may not be able to "squeeze" more in.

Only problem is that as my main OS disk is a SSD defragging is a no go, I run my system OS on the SSD and libraries on the raid, so the bottle neck could be the raid, but would that really adversely affect the whole system.
i will look into running chkdsc,

Cheers for the reply's keep em coming:D

With a machine like that, I seriously highly doubt it is your computer being "slow".

But I would run a SMART scan on your HDD. Usually lock ups like that mean the hard drive is having issue reading a particular sector (for example bad sector that has not be reallocated). Windows is not as good with bad sector reallocation so you may want to manually run the chkdsk so that the remapping can be done for you.

PS: With the System like yours and the money spent on it, a NAS on "wireless" doesn't make any sense. Why not spend a bit more and run a cable through a gigabit ethernet switch? They usually cost like $50.

cheers when i get 5 mins i will run chkdsk, as for running the NAS via wireless as usual its the most convenient option for internal media transfer, the NAS is on a separate network to the external ISP.
