In November I installed windows 7 and had no problems not even a single crash nothing. But suddenly I am getting crashes all over at least 1 or 2 times daily for the past 2 days.

I had a geforce 7300gs which burn out (tried it on another 3 pcs and it did not work in either of them.) so i changed it. Since I am currently low on budget i bought an 8400GS. I don't know whether it is causing the problem but it has not caused any problems for at least a month and I have played COD4 for around 14hrs straight with not even a single crash.

The following is the BSOD report

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1082

Extra information about the problem

Since my old vga suddenly burnt out and i did not have any chance to uninstall its driver could it be causing any conflicts? If yes would reinstalling windows solve this problem? - If the problem is coming from the vga

Thanks

Hi and welcome

First we really need the actual dmp file. use these to upload it to us. http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/34900-1-novice-how-ask-help-bsod-problem.html

Second in looking at the fragment you provided I noticed the bugcheck 124. you can use these to identify and diaxmose them. http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/35349-2-int-stop-0x124-what-means-what-try.html

Thanks

PC just froze again.... Uploaded the new Dump file.... seems pretty similar to the one before.

Programs I had running where firefox 3.6, thunderbird, msn, word 2007 and media player

I got a logitech g15 keyboard from my old gaming days.... what i do notice is that one of the cores goes to 100% usage and the other one is around 15% with an overall usage of 58%. The exact number varies when it freezes. Also when my pc froze, the pointer moves and the track keeps on playing until it ends. A couple of rapid mouse clicks will also freeze the mouse...... ----- could it be a virus rather than a hardware or win 7 problem?

Thanks

Thanks for your reply?

Would analysing the dump file be able to identify the drivers that might be causing this problem?

According to windows update i got all the updated drivers for everything except for my vga since when updating the driver through windows update it made my pc unusable freezing every 2-4hrs.... Ill try do a manual installation of the vga (ie download the newest driver from nvidia and uninstall my current and install it. without going through windows update.

i think my cooling is ok max temp is my vga at around 45 deg C at normal word processing.... processor goes up to around 41 deg.

Ill also disconnect an old webcam which i still use since my win 98 days.... it worked on RC with no problems, when installed on RTM it did give an immediatly BSOD when win update was installing updates but when i tried it on my friends pc with same win7 version HP 32bit it worked just fine and then I reconnected to my pc and it worked without any problems (Unless it is causing the errors without me noticing). Ill also try finding updated drivers for my realtek sound codec.

Any more suggestions?

PS I have reinstalled the RAM and am planning to change them if i keep on getting this problem.... might be faulty RAM could it?

Thanks

well i think the problem is my vga...... I tried a complete uninstall of the driver include delete the driver software option and windows kept on installing various versions of the driver until it installed one driver that had Microsoft corporation on it as seen in the pic. I came till a point when windows kept on installing that driver and i could not remove its software. When doing installing the latest driver my pc froze immediatly with the same bug check error....... i am gonna try it out with the microsoft corporation driver but now i got no temp monitor, this driver is very basic as i can't monitor any of the vga sensors anymore.

What oyu guys think? Any ideas how i can stop windows 7 from installing drivers automatically when it scans for new hardware.?)

Thanks

We can run the dump file and find the dates of drivers - but rarely will the STOP 0x124 dump file tell us what the driver is that caused the problem.

Finding the dates of the drivers will allow you to remove older drivers. And older drivers have a greater chance of being incompatible with the current OS (but that doesn't mean that they are bad).

ok then. This weekend ill be abit light on work and i am gonna try install windows 7 again on an older hdd and install things slowly still i start getting the problems again. If the problems appear immediatly after the install then ill try replace the ram.

The funny thing is that my pc seems to freeze when i am using a particular word document, and when running more intensive games or any other document it does not complain..... so i am starting to suspect a particular program. Ill do a v-check in safe-mode to make sure there is no viruses that might be causing this problem.

Any other ideas pls?

Thanks

PS. I let my brother play for a whole day on my pc. He played GTA San Andreas and pc did not freeze nothing, he continued his assignment and checked facebook every so often using firefox 3.6. I came home and switched on windows live messenger and kept it running in the background, and suddenly my pc froze while i had publisher minimised, CPU level 1% when it froze, mouse moves but i can't click on anything until eventually after clicking like 10 fast clicks the mouse also freezes..... could messenger be causing this problem? my brother does not use msn so he surely did not use it while he was playing. Tried changing compatibility mode for live messenger to vista xp 2. If pc freezes again, gonna go to xp sp3.

Thanks
