PC takes a long time to finish booting

I have noticed for some time now my PC really takes a long time to finish it's boot sequence where it is at a point that it has settled down. I would say I can be looking at around 10 minutes before it is ready to be used. Once it is ready it does not seem to show any issue of being slow at all.

This is a common issue usually caused by software.

Have you run "Autoruns" to see what useless apps are strting with your machine?
remove anything non essential.

Also what security software are you using? Start-up based scans can really affect your boot time!

You could try clearing the windows "Prefetch", this part loads software that is commonly used to increase app loading speed. After loads of installs and removals you end up with a lot of obsolete files here. The prefetch will rebuild itself after a few system uses.

Use an offline defraggmenter to organsise your files into an order that will help this start faster (Not suitable for SSD users).

Ensure windows media player is not scanning for network shares, this can cause system and network lag.

I have run Autoruns and taken out all the start ups that I feel are not needed. I am running Katalepsy as my protection software. I am not sure about "Prefetch" how you check to see if its on or off. I have also done all the fragment of my HD. I don't see anything in media player that could be slowing down the startup at all

I have also setup a 2Gig flash drive to be used as a readyboost drive. This seems to have help a bit in the boot up times

-Please restart your computer and then press and hold F8 keys until you get Advanced Options menu screen.Use the arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, and then press Enter.
-your computer will boot automatically to safe mode.

-Limit programs that run at Start up Limiting programs that run at startup might help you to fix your computer freeze problem
-Click on the Start button
-Type msconfig into the text box then press Enter to locate msconfig
-Go to Startup tab and Remove the check from the box programs that you do not want to start up with the operating system
-Press Apply and OK button.

-Also remove heavy software from your PC and uninstall the unused programs

The PC is not really freezing up as such it just take a long time to come to the point where it has loaded everything it want to. So if I try and use it while this process is still ongoing the PC would then become unresponsive in a way. I am now doing a full defrag of the drives and will also follow your steps once completed. I did check with Autoruns and removed the start-up application that I felt were not needed at start-up.

I have never heard of "Katalepsy" software. I search engined it and all I could find was a death metal band. Unless this is what you play to keep the nasties away? It might actually work

Do you mean Kaspersky?
