Last night as I closed down (Windows 7) I got the message, updating do not shut down so I left i running for about two hours and then went to bed leaving the PC running. Previous opdates have not been a problem. This morning the "downloading" was still trying , so I did a hard reset. I rebooted my Win 7 PC and tried to enter my password and it was not recognised, (I tried a number of times with same result). I have two PC's connected to the internet, Win 7 and XP, and I now find I cannot boot into my XP PC either, same result after entering password. I cannot get past this password request to enter safe mode etc.. Can anyone help with my confusion?. Many thanks.

Hi Buttyman, welcome to Seven Forums,

Do you have an installation DVD?
If so, have you tried booting into that?

I hope this helps!

Many thanks for your prompt message. No, I'm sorry I do not have an installation disk, At the moment I'm waiting fo a friend to arrive to let me borrow his.
The most confusing is why I cannot login with either of my computers, both having the same problem.
Thanks again

There are two possible passwords on a PC
- BIOS pw that allow to boot
- OS pw that allow the user to run its profile on the OS.

As you mentioned you need a "password request to enter safe mode", what pw are you referring, BIOS or OS?
