PC will not boot after update

Hi guys,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place

Last night my PC did a couple of security updates and did a nVIDA update - I can't remember if this was for the on-board sound or the motherboard (I assume the later).

Now when ever I try to turn on my PC I see the "BIOSTAR" Logo, for what feels like ages, and then I get a list which ends with "3rd Master Disk error - press DEL for BIOS set-up"

In the BIOS I noticed that I can't add my SATA drive into the boot priorities list.
When I look at my SATA drive it shows as having 0 MB - which is utter rubbish!

I've tried setting the SATA drive into ACHI mode - but this just leads to the PC trying to boot from the CD and saying "no media present".
Please Help!

Why does Windows have to be like this :(

Using your Windows 7 disc, enter Automatic Boot Recovery. It should detect and fix any issues preventing the system from booting.

This is a good suggestion!

however before doing this, I would make a backup of your disk, i.e. pull it hook it up to a drive adapter to another machine and offload your files. Too often I have seen people try to repair a booting issue and then their files get hosed in the process.

You may want to reset your bios to the defaults settings. Sounds like something messed up your SATA settings/drivers.

If that doesn't help, perhaps try changing the option for a PnP OS installed to No or Yes, depending on what you currently have.

Can you boot to the Install DVD?

Update:
I tried booting from my windows 7 disk - nothing happened... and I get the same error :(

Thanks for your help so far guys... I'm really at a loss now. Windows own update has turned my PC into an expensive table :(

Did you reset your BIOS like Saltgrass suggested?

Uninstall/roll back the updated driver .... if you were doing okay with the way it was, then that could be the problem.
