Hello. My PC won't show safe mode options, just 'Launch startup repair (recommended)' and 'Start windows normally'. The launch option just shows the blank blue screen for about 3 hours then a message that the recovery cannot start because something's missing, the other option just shows 'starting windows' without anything else happening. I have win pe in a usb stick and it boots up fine to the cmd prompt but not sure what commands to use to be able make the PC boot up again. I checked the tutorials but not sure what to use. Can anyone please point me to the right one? Thanks.

Find your drive letter in pe then run chkdsk x: /f (x being your drive letter) and if it can not find anything then try chkdsk x: /r (will look for bad sectors and mark them and may take hours depending on your drive size.

Hello rvcjew, thanks for responding. I got ahold of a win7 installation disc but didn't get very far with it. When I do list disk in Diskpart, it just shows the disk #, no letters, doesn't look like my C: drive's is there either, tried to list volume and it also just shows the DVD-rom and usb stick. What should I try next? Thanks.

In diskpart it's different as the it goes by disk number check disk is done by letters assigned to the volumes. In the install environment the install media is x and your c will be either probably d, f, or e. Go just the normal command prompt and use d: then hit enter and then do dir as that will show you what's in that directory. Look for your files to show up then you have the right disk to check.

EDIT: In diskpart you can also type list volume and that will show you the letters setup while in the install environment.

When I do d: then dir, it showed the label GRMCHPXFRER_EN_DVD and the files in it. Diskpart list volume showed d: (DVD-rom, udf) and e: (fat32) which would be the win7 installation disc and the pe usb stick.

Wait do you have a usb stick running pe and a install DVD in your computer at once and your booting off the PE? Go through the letters looking for the structure with users/your name in it. In Pe it might just be c: so try that one as well.
