Pc1 fast; pc2 slow. Install ibto pc2 higher ram & faster processer?

Hey Guys. Not a new thing. Have 2 PC's. Same make & model.

But PC1 has: Ram: 4.00; Processor: Intel Pentium cpu [email protected] GHz

And PC2 has:RAM: 2.00; Processor: Intel Celeron cpu G460@180GHz

PC1 is speedy enough I think. adequate I believe. I might be wrong but lets start there.

PC2 is a pure Tortoise. Always stalling, loading up and sometimes freezing needing a reboot. then bootup is slow according to Glary's utilities (when open).

I recently noticed the above differences in ram and processor speeds. AHH HAA, I thought!

Is this ram & processor speed the cause of the PC2 slowness, ya think? Any other (related or not) reason I might have missed?

Can I just install the new ram into PC2 to match the ram in PC1?
Can I just install the new processor into PC2 to match the processor speed in PC1?

More ideas on what to look for invited, for sure.

Thanks, Jim:cry:

for PC2 we need to know your exact motherboard and memory details to answer. Some of the slowness is hardware for sure but PC2 may have other things slowing it down too, because it should not be freezing.

Click on motherboard and RAM within speccy and post a screenshot of each, like below, is your best bet. Note that I have some details expanded and some not - don't need timing tables expanded for instance

Speccy - Advanced System Information Tool - Windows 7 Help Forums

If you are not keen on doing a screenshot, the motherboard model, total memory slots, used memory slots, and memory SPD part number is all that's really needed.

The systems appear different in several ways, I was hoping that would not be the case. The newer one has different memory and a different bios. If the faster machine had the same bios and memory, it would have been easy to just buy new memory and a cpu so that the slow system would exactly match the fast system, but no dice. And since the motherboard is specific to gateway, I'm not sure if it will support a faster cpu. So the question becomes how do you at least upgrade memory. Open your slow system and look to see if you have just one DIMM installed, which means you have one empty memory slot. Based on the report, that appears to be the case. If so, remove the DIMM and take a close up pic of its label. It will look similar to the below pic. Then do a search on ebay like this:

HU524303EP0200 | eBay

and find a 2GB dimm whose label matches yours. Buy it, then install it in your empty dimm slot and you should be good to go. If buying stuff on ebay feels to "out there" for you, go to the crucial website where they have a tool which will scan your system and tell you what to buy. Good luck.

Here is a resized image of the memory stick slot on pc2. Does this show two rows of pins? If so best to get 2each 2GB ram sticks or just one 4GB ram stick? Oh and with only the info the Corsair program gave for the ram sticks I needed, how to I get the information needed to shop on ebay for the ram stick I chose to buy? Thanks Jim edit... I got the part # interchange method from crucial chat, sooo .

Actually your pic shows your empty PCI slot. Attached is a pic of your SX2855 motherboard, showing the two memory slots.

I saw on crucial that your motherboard supports up to 8GB of memory, using two 4GB Dimms. About $65. That is your best bet if you want the best performance. So in that case you would buy two new 4GB dimms and throw away your existing 2GB dimm. But if you wanted to go the cheaper route and re-use your existing dimm and only go to 4GB (2x2GB) total, then you can remove the existing dimm, take a pic of its label, and buy another one just like it. Here is a link to a video as to how to install a dimm.

How to install RAM Memory in your Computer - YouTube

Also in the attached pic you can see the specific motherboard model of H61H2-AD. Check on your machine to see if that is also your model. If so, the pentium G630 cpu does run on that board. Its almost as fast as the cpu on your other machine.

Ok, now knowing the slots to look for, I see the one stick in PC1 with "KN4G...." and PC2 with "KN2G...." on the label affixed to each stick. could I get the two 4G sticks for PC2 and use its original 2G stick on PC1> Would that make a total Ram to use 6Gb or not. If so hoping my speed performance will pick up on both PC1 & PC2...Savvy? How much ya think?

Well. don't know if youve gone for the day but here is the progress report. Could not put PC1 ram into PC2 with its existing ram stick. Would have had to do a major PC dismantling to get the two sticks in side by side, Sooo took out the PC2 2G stick and put into PC2 the PC1 4G stick. so I have Pc sitting all alone without any ram.

WOW instant perky fast snappy PC2:party::thumbsup::dinesh: What would have taken like 1+ minute opening a folder is now done in a flash so fast ya can hardly see it. So it was the ram. Now gotta shop for another 4G ram. got some interchange info from crucial chat, so maybe that will lead me to the right ram on ebay or amazon. have a good nite bud. Sure appreciate your kind help. Jim

search on "sx2855 ub12p 2x4gb", $48.50 on amazon, but verify that the sx2855 -ub12p is your computer. it will be labelled somewhere on the machine, or you can look it up online. Another option is to get ram not specific to your machine, as its likely that anything described as "ddr3 1333mhz 2x4gb desktop" will work. maybe someone else here knows a site that assures compatibility at a good price for memory.

Not to doubt you, just curious. where did the "ub12p 2x4gb" part of your "sx2855 ub12p 2x4gb" come from.

here is the info of both PC labels:

PC1

SERIAL NUMBER: DTGCFAA00731300A679600

MODEL: SX2855-UR13 (SX2855_E)

SNID 31300266396

PC2

SERIAL NUMBER: PTGCFP2008202029959600

MODEL: SX2855-UB10P

UB12P was just a guess on my part, not knowing your hard drive size. The UB10P and UB12P are the same machine and take the same memory, but one has a 250GB hard drive and the other has 500GB.

Well somehow lost my last post. So again... Wound up buying the 4G ram stick from Wallmart via A-Tech who upon my phone request professionally gave me their exact search words to enter. all others were higher than W.M. so they got the order. A-Tech also delivers to your doorstep free, so pretty good deal and about $10 less than crucial (not considering freight). I really really do appreciate your kind, professional help on this.:thumbsup:Hope you enjoy your new rep I sent. Jim
