I have an Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 and it supports SLI/Crossfire. But I have 1 GPU to install, and I'm confused to which slot to install it on. I know that it is unusual for a card to be placed further away from the CPU, but I think that may be the case for this motherboard. In the manual, it says for 1 card (Doesn't say what required slot speed) should be installed on the PCI-E further away, and then install the VGA switch card that was included with the motherboard. Could anyone give me something official? I hope I haven't accidently modified the wrong part of my case :o

After looking at some pictures, it looks like the grey slot is the PCI-E 16_1 and is the first slot and a single card should go there @ 16 speed. The blue slot is a PCI-E 16_2, with a second card in that slot for SLI or CRossFire reverts both slots to speed @ 8, which is normal for a dual card setup. Check the specs out here, see link.

Also I like newegg.com for checking out pictures of puducts. Have a look here. You can blow up picture and read the port layout.
