I am going to upgrade my Video card.
But I am having trouble understanding PCI Express.
The video card I am looking at Says its PCI Express 2.0.
However I have PCI Express x1 and PCI Express x16.
Can you explain this to me.
Thanks
PCI express 2.0 is the version of the PCIe bus and has to do with the speed of each lane. Newer motherboards and video cards are normally ver 2.0 or 2.1 and are compatible to the older 1.0 version. A new 3.0 version has just been released and only a few MB and the new AMD 7xxx video card uses the 3.0 ver.
The PCI express X1 or X16 refers to the number of lanes or channels on each slot. Most video cards require a X16 slot.
The longer slots on your MB are X16 and the real short one is X1 and they should be marked on the MB or in your manual.
