PCI or AGP low profile grapics card?

hi,
I have an old pc with:

Asus P4P8X (AGP 8x capable)
Pentium 4 @2,53 GHz
2GB RAM
Radeon 9600 Pro (256MB DDR AGP 8x)

I had a Sapphire HD 3450 AGP (512MB DDR2) before this Radeon 9600 Pro, but i broke it. Now I'm looking for a decent grapics card for this pc...

1) is a card like an HIS HD 5450 PCI fast as a Sapphire HD 3450 AGP 8x?

HIS HD 5450 has DDR3 memory and 650 MHz core clock, but PCI bus (cost 25-30$)
Sapphire HD 3450 has DDR2 memory and 600 MHz core clock, but AGP 8x bus

2) is a PCI 3.0 card compatible with a PCI 2.1 slot?

AGPx8 is better then PCI. First came PCI, then AGPx8, then PCIe. When AGP was first introduced, it had four times the bandwidth of PCI.

Buy the strongest AGP card you can afford.

AGP 8X(2002) - bandwidth shared between reads and writes to a maximum of 2.133 GB/s; many implementations are limited to 267 MB/s read speed

The speed of the processor is limited by the function of the slot. That's why I posted the transfer rates, the data processed. If you take the same card, one GeForce 6200 AGP, and one GeForce 6200 PCI, the AGP version would perform better due to the capabilities of the slot.

so I'll search for a good AGP card... I prefer Nvidia to Ati (for Physx), but the HD4670 is actually the fastest AGP card in the market...

any good Nvidia AGP card suggestion?

AGP 8X will be faster then a regular PCI slot That is a old chipset type and if your looking in that direction your better off going AGP

I don't know how well it will perform with todays games but up till like maybe 2-1/2 years ago i sold my 7300 GT agp that ran left4dead and even kane& lynch dead men

Also i would say your set up will come into play as well Max your ram out and Oc the card if doable the Cpu there not much you can do there old Technology but hey it will run some games just not all the demanding one's

Which card is faster may be irrelevant. Since the 5 series is newer, it is likely to be more supported on your system than the other option. I have given you all of the opinions I can give you here. Without actually benching them both, on the same system, there is no way for me to know which will perform better. This may be a question better suited for a GPU manufacturer. If it were me, I would pick the tech support of my favorite GPU manufacturer and email them the question. You should basically give them your system specs, price point and ask them for their suggestion on AGP vs PCI for your build. I am interested to know the results.

If you can find a HD3870 they said it is faster then a 4670 which i find hard to belive but yes it is

There are no Nvidia AGP cards that support Physx, and the only PCI cards (at least at Newegg) are these two,

which considering both are low end cards, likely would choke if you enabled Physx in any of the small handful of games that use it.
