I'm doing a clean install of 7 ultimate x64, I've got another hd with the rc installed that has been running for a while so I know the hardware works under 7.

If I boot the new install with my 5 port usb pcix card, it detects a "pci-to-pci bridge" starts to install drivers, and then the whole system hangs. I've tried taking everything else out, no joy.

Any suggestions on how to get this device installed?

here's a link to the card I'm using..
Newegg.com - SYBA PCI-Express USB 2.0 5 Ports Controller Card Model SD-PEX-NEC5U - Add-On Cards

thx!

I think your goiing to find it may not be compatible with 7 since it says win 98,ME.2000 and XP So it's fairly old card, and since it crashes the PC before you can even get to try and install the XP drivers in compatibility mode, for the price I would suggest trying to find a more compatible card. Not what you wanted to hear I know but JMO. Fabe

PCI To PCI Bridge Installation for WIndows 7

I had the same problem. My solution was to unplug all PCI devices except for the graphics card in my PCI-X x16 slot.

I believe the PCI slot I was installing the PCI-to-PCI Bridge driver is an PCI-X x8

Then I logged into Windows 7 in Safe Mode.

I opened Device Manager after Right-Clicking My Computer.

Under the System Devices category, I chose "PCI Bus" and "Scan for Hardware Changes"

Then Windows 7 automatically installed the drivers. Then I plugged back in all the PCI devices and rebooted Windows 7 normally.

It is a good idea after this point to make a hard drive back up so you do not have to repeat these steps in the future. I personally use Acronis True Image.

If you try all this and still need to attempt to install the drivers manually in safe mode, then activate the New Hardware Manager by typing hdwwiz in the search box on the Start Menu.

If you still cannot get that installed, check the device to see the manufacturer and try to find updated drivers on the Internet.

Incidentally, my PCI card was with Firewire 400 ports. It has 4 of them.
