Could I use one of these PCI wireless router/modem for when the PC is in sleep? I still wnat my laptops and Roku (tha tNetflix box) be able to access the internet. I don't have a home network planned or so. all devices just need to use the internet.

right now I have a separate DSL modem, separate wielss router. To un-clutter (and save energy.. those power supplies for router and modem get hot)) I was thinking to use this PCI card and just send my PC in sleep when not needed and have it run the PCI wireless router when sleeping.

any idea if that is possible and how? I googled, but didn't really find anything.
If it is possible, any advice on a specific PCI card?

I am not sure if I can understand your point, but let's try:

That D-Link adapter is not a router, it is a WiFi adapter i.e. when you insert that on your desktop, it can use WiFi. The card do not replace your router, it just connects your desktop to an existing WiFi router.

When one computer is sleeping or turned off, other computers using the same router can still connect to it and use the internet.

OK, i thought it would be Router AND Wifi in one device. then i think that specific device was a bad example of what I want to accomplish. Obviously an external router would still work regardless of my PC being on or not. that is what I have now.

what I want to do, have a PCI- Router AND Wifi device (if that exists) and use that even when the PC is in sleep.

Might be it's just my lack of knowledge but I have never heard of a WiFi adapter / router combo.

I might try one of those external wireless router/modem combos. then I at least consolidate to one device and they nnow also have ENERGY STAR power supplies. thanks for the advice anyways.
