I'm still on my original Aug 2006 model 360... It's probably only lasted this long since I don't use it ;)

However it did outlive one of my 4890's

I'll do you one better..... I bought a 360 on launch day in November 2005. That box finally died just last week with the infamous red rings of death. A little over 4 years of service isn't so bad for a system that was plagued with problems from the day it went on the market.

That is pretty good because.. lets be honest with ourselves, microsoft practically forced these things out the door early so they could ensure a larger portion of the game market (which worked) as they have outsold ps3 considerably.

They've outsold the PS3, but in reality the PS3 gives your more for the price. Bluray playback, a web browser, better media playback, ability to swap internal 2.5'') HDDs without voiding the warranty, USB HDD/flash drive/Card support, Bluetooth device support, FREE wireless controller included, OtherOS (Fat PS3s only), FREE online play.

I like the 360, but this still doesn't change the fact that the idea of paying for online access on an internet connection you're supplying on a console you went out and bought to play your overpriced games on is stupid.

I agree the ps3 maybe a better buy, (maybe) depending on what you are buying it for. But a lot of that had to do with the industry adopting blueray and not HD-DVD (so not really microsofts fault).

Another thing i just thought of is; when you go to buy a new console, unless you already have an HDTV (which most people didnt when the consoles came out) you need the HDTV to go with that console. So i kinda question the argument that consoles are cheaper. Average price of games is another thing to look at as PC games are generally 40-50 range compared to the standard 60 for ps3 and 360 games.

As an Xbox360 owner, the XboxLive account is pretty solid and reliable and in my opinion worth the $49.95 that I pay per year for it. As to whether or not games are overpriced, that's up to the end user to describe. You don't have the buy the games when they first come out and when you find them onsale, you can easily get them $20 to $40 off.

Another thing i just thought of is; when you go to buy a new console, unless you already have an HDTV (which most people didnt when the consoles came out) you need the HDTV to go with that console.
The consoles do NOT require an HDTV...it just looks better on an HDTV. All of the consoles will hook up to standard televisions and most every household has one of those. And with the HDTV, you can use that to watch HDTV and BluRay's etc...so it's quite useful in alot of other areas as well. It's not just dedicated to your game console.

I voted PC, because I like how it works better.

I suck at aiming on a stick controller.

However, I did just buy an XBox 360, and have it hooked up to my computer monitor. Works very well, just a rather small screen.
I have only played Halo 3 so far (yes, I know its old, but I got it with the console, so... still an entertaining game), and its working quite well.
I have yet to test Rock Back (love that game), I need to order a controller or borrow a friends.

That is pretty good going for a launch console :)

(And there are plenty of nvidia cards that go south too. Plus what GPU do you think is in the 360? It's not nvidia... :p )

Also another reason I'd rather have a beefy gaming computer than a "next-gen" console:

Bioshock 2 Paid 'DLC' Is Already On The Disc - The Consumerist

To be fair, this practice existed before the 360. But I'm not one of these people that agree with it.

To me it's the same as buying a fully built house, but you still need to purchase separate keys in order to unlock some of the doers.

Honestly, what's the purpose of the thread? This is a Windows 7 forum. PC is going to be favored. I think you would get a better pool of people if this were done in a developer forum such as EA.

Amen, I hate this argument so much in so many ways, all in all, we should instantly know what we are all about to say anyways, if not, we are just in the paradoxical troll hell known as this argument.

I hate it so much because from what I'm hearing PC gaming is dying a little; and thus we should offer (as aforementioned in previous posts) solutions and advancements to problems.

I can admit to the fact that I used to pirate games and upload releases which doesn't really aid my standing (or my emotions about the topic), and the fact I spent most my gaming time alone due to everyone else having consoles. (Although I did spend alot of my time offline with no internet)

I also hate FPS on consoles with a passion, but unfortunately, I have a PS3 and I'm an avid fan of alot of Console only releases, so whatever...

The only thread worse than this is "PS3 vs XBOX360" (Which I hope I never see) and you can only talk about that topic about marketing terms.

Closing statements:
Computer Aryan race...

The purpose of this thread is to argue and discuss our opinions on what we prefer for gaming PC or Console. how hard is it to figure that out.....

As far as the DX10 being a flop, maybe as far as sales goes, but eye candy wise thats so far from the truth...

And my point is you are posting this on a forum dedicated to Windows 7 which the last time I checked runs only on pc's. The poll will be inaccurate and therefore is useless. Best to discuss this nonsense on a forum dedicated to a developer that makes games for both pc's and console if you want a true representation and fair arguement.

There is a point on this thread, this is the gaming section or have you not noticed that, oh and did you notice the general discussion topic.

Why is it some ppl post non Windows 7 related subjects in general discussions and other categories. Just because this is a windows 7 forum does not mean we are not allowed to compare windows 7 gaming to consoles.

Get your facts right in future.

WDA, I agree with you on the poll being one sided as this is a windows 7 forum and if the post was on a Xbox forum or PS3 forum the poll would lean the other way. It is ncie to see though that people aren't just PC though, 20% voted for console.

I do think though that this thread has a point. you can read all the posts and get an idea of why people choose consoles or PCs and the pros and cons of each. If you got only one side and everyone said PC because this is a PC based forum, then the thread would be pointless.

I don't believe that the results of the poll are skewed just because this is a Windows 7 forum. It's all to one's own tastes. There have been members who posted replies in this very thread who state that they prefer consoles--so how is it skewed in favor of PC gaming or Windows 7? However, those who do game primarily on PC do defend their PC as the better "gaming system"--regardless of the operating system.

The poll will be inaccurate and therefore is useless. Best to discuss this nonsense on a forum dedicated to a developer that makes games for both pc's and console if you want a true representation and fair arguement.

I agree with you in part, but disagree in other areas. Just because someone is accessing this site from their PC, that doesn't immediately identify them as a PC only gamer. This site is about an operating system, not a game or gaming system.

Maybe the discussion and polling results would be better if the forum where the discussion was taking place had nothing to do with computers or gaming whatsoever?

'Some reason this guy looks like a Pc gamer.

But anyways, I love how my crappy post is now in like over 5 quotes now, but theres an aforementioned point, I think alot of people like the PC (And FPS on the PC) Due to the Keyboard and mouse ? Personally thats probably a big factor typically for that kind of game genre.
