On my win 7sp1 64 bit OS's DESKTOP, if I put either a shortcut to a PDF file or the file itself, after about a week the icon will lose its color and be difficult to discern, but it still works as an icon.

If the PDF icon (shortcut to the file or file itself) is in a FOLDER on the DESKTOP (or folder anywhere else) this does not happen! Also, if I move the DESKTOP's discolored PDF Icon (shortcut or file itself) into any folder on the DESKTOP (or anywhere else) its color reappears. Then If I move it back to the DESKTOP the revived color stays with the shortcut icon (for about another week), but does not revive at all for the icon for the file itself!

This happens solely with PDF icons, no other program or file icons.
Does anyone have a clue as to what is happening. There is no maleware or viruses on my computer and all colors are set properly. Seems to be an issue between the OS and ACROBAT READER but I haven't a clue how to fix it

Acrobat reader on x64 systems has had problems with PDF icon previews in the past. I thought they had got it sorted now but maybe not. I personally use Foxit which is faster, has more facilities and doesn't have any icon problems.

No I don't think so. As Kado says Foxit is by far the better of the two. Try it then if you like it uninstall Acrobat. If you don't like it uninstall it and carry on with Acrobat but be aware you are likely to get these small niggles with it! That's the way it is and loads of annoying updates!
