Permission errors and such

I recently upgraded my computer with a new graphics card, a hard drive, a solid state drive and some more ram. I did a clean install of win7 on the ssd and I started putting all my programs on the computer and transferring files from this laptop. I was transferring a few files and downloading a game in steam when I started up civ5. At the loading screen to go into a match my computer just shut down without warning. After I started it back up almost none of my programs worked. In fact the only programs that DO work are zune and cpuz. All the rest say they have permission errors and can't open or they do nothing when I tell them to open or they direct me to error logs. I can't install or uninstall anything either. I tried running check disk but it didn't find any errors. Then I tried doing a system restore but it failed every time on every possible restore file. Am I gonna have to wipe and re-install?

To fix a "dirty" volume you must run chkdks /r /f from an elevated command prompt.
Tell it you want to run at the next reboot - and then reboot.

If that doesn't fix it, then the volume must be formatted.
I don't know how this applies to an SSD, but would suggest using the tools that came with the SSD to check it for errors.

I've seen a lot of issues with SSD's recently. Most are handled by ensuring the firmware for the drive has been updated.

Be patient when installing stuff. Do it one at a time, and reboot between installations (even if it's not required).

Good luck!

With /R then /F is superfluous. the /F does no harm, since the /R overrides.

/R Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information
(implies /F).

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
I just ended up formatting it...

And when was the format performed? After, before or during the Win 7 install?

Please run chkdsk /r.

This will show you how to review the result of chkdsk:

VIEW CHKDSK (CHECK DISK) LOG

The log giving the results from running Check Disk can be viewed using the Event Viewer.

· WIN key | type EVENTVWR.MSC | ENTER key
WIN is the key with the Microsoft flag on top.
· Wait for the Summary of Administrative Events section in the middle pane to be populated.
· In the left-pane, click on Windows Logs | Application
· Right-click on Application | select Filter current log
· in the <All Event IDs> box, enter 1001 | OK button
· center pane, Sources column, click on Wininit
you could have made that selection also in the filter dialog
· The chkdsk log is in the General tab
· To save: click in the scrollable area of the General tab |
Ctrl + A (to select All) | Ctrl + C (to copy the selection)
· paste your selection into NotePad, WordPad, Word or the editor of your choice.
