Right click on the root of the drive, Properties, Security, Advanced, Owner, Edit

Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and object"s then set the owner to you - beware, this will usually take a while to apply.

You must be an administrator to do so, if you are not then contact your administrator and ask them for access.
Is there a specific reason you need ownership? All files you care about should be accessible (unless you have done an upgrade, when some may have not had the permissions transferred correctly)

You should already have full access to your files, any ones that you can't access there is a good reason for it (the only folder I can remember that you can't is System Volume Information, just because it's a little touchy to outside modification.)

The permissions on the windows disk and folder are there for a reason, to stop things getting broken.

You, by default, already have access to all "your" files. If you need to gain access to operating system files, then the method used will depend on the actual files concerned.

the default permissions on the operating system are there as an integral part of the operating system, they may be changed if required but will weaken system security and may result in the non operation of the system.

In order to guide you in taking ownership of OS files we need to know exactly which files are involved.

I was assuming that he was not going to do this on the system disk, but on another disk from and old install or the like. (Which have a bad habit of permission problems)
