Solved Perplexing problem--disappearing place to click

Hi all. This is a tough one to explain and if this is the wrong place to post, let me know.

Here goes--I built a new Windows 7 computer last Saturday (January 5). Here's what happens.

Lets say I am telling Windows 7 to empty the Recycle bin. I "empty the recycle bin" and nothing seems to happen. If I drop the recycle bin window, I see the message "are you sure you want to delete these files".

I am seeing so much of this kind of stuff. I hope I have explained this properly.

I built my first Windows 7 computer last May and have not seen anything like this.

I am at your mercy because I don't have a clue.

Any thoughts?

Hi Jadinolf,

I think a good place to start would be to check your system file intergity.

To Perform a System File Check:
Click on the start button> Type CMD on Search
Right click CMD and Run as Administrator

Type: SFC /scannow at the prompt

Let that run and reboot and post back status

Thats good that no integrity violations were found

Ok..this is a solution you may try to resolve the recycle bin issue (as i dont know your other issues?):

IMPORTANT: The following procedure permanently deletes all files and folders which are already in the Recycle Bin (from all user accounts in the system) and cannot be recovered.

1. Same as before:

Click on the start button> Type CMD on Search
Right click CMD and Run as Administrator

2. Type the following command and press ENTER:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin (just copy and paste this as its easier)

This will clear out the $Recycle.bin folder from the C:\ partition. If you have more than one partition you might have to do this for each hard drive partition in your system.)

Type exit to close the Command Prompt window.

Reboot and check recylce bin operation

If that does not do the trick, you can try Ccleaner, which incudes that very function.

Give that a try and let me know.

You may also want to check what programs are running in the backgound and uninstall any you never use:
