Personal Folder / My Documents Access

Hello,

I am having a little problem here, I searched this forum but I can't find a proper solution.

We are currently trying to make the .NET applications we provide ready for windows 7. We tried with W7 BETA Ultimate 32BIT and so far and everything looked fine. All applications are working as they should so there seems to be nothing we have to change in order to become W7 ready.

However, one of our users also tried to setup one of our applications on a windows 7 machine and failed. The applications stores its configuration into the personal folder (my documents) which seems not to work anymore. Unfortunately, he deleted his windows 7 installation already so he cant give me any other details

Another client reported the same (application failed to read/write to my documents) but he does not reply to my emails.

So, my question would be, is there anything I might have missed regarding the personal folder? Any differences between 32 / 64 Bit (unfortunately I cannot download the 64Bit BETA anymore). Or maybe a permissions thing? I was sure that each user must have the permissions to read / write to his personal folder.

Would be great if someone could resolve this issue.

Thanks in advance.

if you're going to develop application compatible with 7, I would suggest that you test it out yourself. You can try the Windows 7 Enterprise 90 day trial or the Server 2008 R2 180 day trial, both of which are final "Retail" code.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.

Thanks but ... did you read my question? I did already.

Anyway, the problem was that both customers are running Windows 7 using parallels on mac.

I am assuming that for some reason you cannot store your settings in the accepted place? - The Users folder branch under appdata.

I am not a developer but I can see potential for issues with using a user modifiable folder such as My Documents/documents. Also of course the user data folders are also relocatable to other drives etc.

All of these may cause issues and this possibility is magnified where you are dealing with a multi-boot scenario where they may be accessed my more than one OS.

We do have a number of accomplished software developers as members here and hopefully one will be able to provide further guidance.

Thanks for your thoughts.

We will surely be able to workaround that problem now.
