I installed Windows live and selected only Gallery, Movie Maker and Writer.

First time running Photo Gallery I get.

Photo Gallery can't start. You may not have enough space on your hard disk or critical files may be missing from Windows.

Tried to drag a movie to Movie Maker and it crashes.

Any suggestions? Makes me wonder if Windows Live was tested. :sarc:

SFC is ok. I think Photo Gallery has problems and Microsoft is working on it.

I would suggest using an alternative photo viewing app and when you find one you like, simply make it the default photo viewer so photos will open in that app when you click on them.

Although I use other paid apps for serious editing (Lightroom & Photoshop), I (and many other people who are into digital photography) have found the free Faststone Image Viewer to be simply awesome (and fast) for just opening and viewing image files. Picassa is a great free tool for simple editing but for just looking at and enjoying the images, Faststone can't be beat, imo. I like the way it opens images in full screen with no distracting borders or menus in the way. But the menus conveniently "flyout" whenever one moves the mouse to the side and top edges of the screen.

Btw, the same company also makes a nice screen capture app, but that one is not free.

I've got excatly the same probs...MS has provide a patch may, 2010 (Fix It) and you can find it here:
Fix: Windows Photo Gallery images not displaying correctly | The Windows Club

I've run the tool, it sayed it had fixed it...but i could not run WLPG for that same reason, but you could give it a try.
