Photo Screensaver - file id

If you have the screensaver set so that it uses photos, is there a way of getting the photo file path & file name displayed similar to the option available under XP - I'm using Windows 7 (64bit) Home Professional

Not unless you're prepared to write the information on the photo itself. I think MS reasonably assumed that as you decide which folders to display you don't really need to have this information repeated. There are probably third-party screensavers which will do this for you but there are also third party screensavers that will chew up your computer and spit it out so it may just be easier to live without it!

Shame that MS took the facility out - I've got about 15,000 photos in My Pictures and I can't always remember which of the 400 folders a particular photo is in when it comes up on screen.

Well I can see that that might add a little difficulty but aren't screensavers supposed to be for when you're not actually there to see them? There's plenty of photo organizers/viewers/cataloguers out there that have got to be more suitable for identifying images if you've that many.

I've got the viewers, etc. But I let the screensaver run like a photoframe when I'm doing other things in the office and occasionally a little gem I've forgotten about shows up with the random play.

I can live without the path being displayed - it was just a nice memory jogger.

I know this is an older thread but I was wondering about this as well and found this fix. I haven't tried it yet-my XP laptop is shut off and I don't want to turn it on just for this but I'll try it tomorrow.

Here's the solution. Copy ssmypics.scr from your old XP machine to the Window 7 machine c:windows:system32 directory. then the old screensaver is available in settings. worked for me!

I REALLY missed the file path tag on photos!

(Thanks for trying dunfiddlin, but you just don't get it. Once you have 15 years worth of photos in hundreds of folders, the file path tag is a must! Microsoft is always pulling this move - omitting old features and calling it progress!)

I agree with pagallery in that it is great to be able to grab that ancient gem that randomly pops up and tag it or email it to someone you haven't seen in years.

Also my son loves to just come into the den and watch the screen savers and laugh at the old photos. Sometimes he would grab me and show me one and then I would copy it to the digital picture frame in his room. Now I can do that again!

PS: "aren't screensavers supposed to be for when you're not actually there to see them?" No way dude! If you aren't ever watching them, you should set your computer to blank screen or sleep so it saves energy!!
