Howdy, Foax! As I photoshopped my digital photos in Windows XP, I became accustomed to identifying the results of my experimental efforts by saving the variously modified copies, e.g., Photo 005 (the original), followed by Photo 005.a (the first modification), then Photo 005.b (the second modification), etc. In Windows 7, however, the moment I try to post “.a” (or any dot-letter) to a photo number and save it to a folder, that photo disappears as soon as I click “Save”, that is, it never shows up in its folder. Can anyone explain what’s going on here?

Many thanks in advance for your information and assistance!

I have a feeling you may be removing the correct extension from the file, such as .jpg or .gif. Do you have your explorer view set to show extensions?

Tools, Folder Options, View, uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"...

This will allow you to see what's going on with the filename
